i will take you a while to do in 3d and make it look 100% convincing. Unless you have ILM level technical directors to tune your particle systems.

Print the logo on paper, glue that to some blue high density foam. Carve it out with a knife then rough up the edges and top surface so it looks like stone. Paint to suit. Grab a bag of sand from the beach or an aquarium store. One shop vac or compressed air can and you’ve got the shot for real instead of a fake. Particles interacting with a surface always seem a little too floaty and smooth when done in 3D unless you have days to tune it perfectly.

    Raylight is your answer

I have a Panasonic HVX200 and use Raylight to convert the MXF files to imntermediate avis to edit in PP and AE.

Raylight handles all the frame rates and is really worth the $200
You can use raylight to generate proxies to edit with in real time
At any time you can click on the raylight panel and reconvert to the full resolution files to step through and view the footage frame by frame if your pc isn’t fast enough.

Their whole proxy system will allow you to edit HD footage on the most lowly of laptops.

Try the keylight plugin, it is a better keyer just because its spill suppression will get rid of all of those green highlights.

Next time, if you can, light your green screen with diffused lights, then light your talent seperately. Get your talent 15 feet from the green screen or more, and pull your camera back and zoom in to compensate. That should eliminate all spill except on really shiny clothing like leather, latex and pvc.

I would rather have AE integrated into Maya or 3D Studio Max (like Video Post) as a real compositor, than try to cram all those refined 3D tools into AE. Discreet has some integration with Max and Combustion. In that you can have both applications open and have them update in real time between the two.

Chris is right. Don’t over use cliche effects. Shine was cool in 1985 when they actually raytraced it on a Cray workstation. 20 years later it’s tired. Everyone has shine now.

My general rules are never copy anything directly, and don’t do things because they are the latest trend. Both of those make you look uncreative.

I’d rather fail doing something hard than succeed doing something easy.
