Just woundering if any of you pros out there have any tips on maximizing the dvcpro hd 60p work flo.
Hawaii island visitors bureau is the client and the HD footage that I get to use on this 3 min cmi promo is breathtaking.
Ive been excited about this new project but as I sink my teeth into my first “real HD project”, I find myself dreaming about the good old days of SD.
Things are moving slow, to preview in realtime (to get a feel for the timing of a comp), im using 1/3 res and skipping 2 frames for ram preview.
the prerenders are slow and jai-normous.
Can I somehow do the project at half the frame rate, preview in real time and output at 60p later ????
    Proxy hell????
Please,,, any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Couple of thoughts. Click on Kramers head and download the tutorial “Rendering Tips and HD Proxies”. This really helped me with the whole proxie thing.

The other thing is GridIron Software. This stuff has decreased my render times accross the board about 50%. Plus they have droped the price from $500 to $400.

    Good luck!

    Raylight is your answer

I have a Panasonic HVX200 and use Raylight to convert the MXF files to imntermediate avis to edit in PP and AE.

Raylight handles all the frame rates and is really worth the $200
You can use raylight to generate proxies to edit with in real time
At any time you can click on the raylight panel and reconvert to the full resolution files to step through and view the footage frame by frame if your pc isn’t fast enough.

Their whole proxy system will allow you to edit HD footage on the most lowly of laptops.

    Thanx for all the tips.
I watched the Kramer tut on proxies and that really helped. If its an automatic part of the work flow then it flows better.
Gotta gut nucleo pro, or the $$ for it, rather.

As well, the raylight thing looks pretty cool but im currently on a Mac g5 2×2.67 ghzt- 3gigs ram.
Will they release that for mac or is that a windows thing only???

HD is big and slow, but its the beautiful future.
