  • I exported an image seq out of AE. However, mocha doesn’t recognize it as a “sequence” and only lets me import one still of the sequence. Actually the only format that my version of mocha recognizes is a “dv stream” which isn’t going to work (project is HD). I’m guessing that version of mocha was a beta version or something, with limited capabilities.

  • Yikes! I just figured QT was pretty standard. I’ll try a conversion tonight and see what happens. Thanks so much for bearing with me!

  • I tried using Mocha for CS4 and it won’t import any clips. I simply select NEW PROJECT. Then browse to the .mov clip I’m trying to track. I made sure the frame rate was correct (23.976) and nothing but black shows up in the mocha window/viewer. I tried a few other QT files which play fine in FCP, Avid and After Effects. Same thing: just a black screen. Wondering, is this version of mocha too old to work with a MacPro tower?

  • Thanks for the tips! I’m running CS4 so I’ll have to check the folder. Hopefully this will do it. Thanks!

  • Can’t afford to buy Mocha at this point. Was hoping AE would be able to handle it.

Arrrr…I knew it was too good to be true. I have a few decent-sized HDs, but love the idea of a small media footprint. Should I assume editing with the raw (Clip-Wrapped) files would make for a miserable editing experience in either FCP7 or Avid? I guess I should do a test and see for myself.

    Thanks.

There’s been several times that I’ve needed to go back into a long-deleted project and make changes, hence the need to relink to the original files. This was easy with miniDV tapes as I could recapture the tape(s) and have a project that had been deleted for 6 years sitting right there in front of me. I’ll do some tests to make sure but it sounds like batch capture is possible with sd cards.

Great explanation. It’s great there is batch capture like the minidv days! I am new to Log & Transfer (I had been using the Avid Link to AMA with success).

Is Shotput Pro THAT much better than just using Disc Utility to make a disc image? Is Disc Utility not reliable for copying over files?

    Thanks for the help!

I looked over the ‘Installing Your Software’ instructions and it mentions selecting an alternate location in the Custom Install process. In the Change Install Location window there is a folder by each app’s content where you can route to a different HDD. But the error message keeps coming up. Perhaps the location for the Content files needs a copy of OSX? I’ve just never had to install OSX on a scratch disc.

October 19, 2011 at 7:46 pm in reply to: Capturing in FCP: compatibility with cameras?

Thanks for the tip, however the need for capturing miniDV is so infrequent and sporadic I can’t justify $500+ on a deck. At the same time, I want to make sure the camera is compatible with FCP (control of the camera by FCP isn’t necessary, only the ability to capture). Canon won’t comment since it’s a discontinued line of products.

Just wondered if anyone had experience capturing footage in FCP with a consumer-grade camcorder like this.
