Hi Alex,
You are correct that the product does not include any DIN 1.0/2.3 cables or adapters. Ideally you should use cables which are already terminated with a DIN 1.0/2.3 on one end, for best signal quality, rather than adapters. However I’m sure that some people will use adapters.

On the HDLink, please disable the override EDID option.It is OK to leave the “scale video to fit larger display” option enabled to help reduce black borders around the picture. I would recommend that standard definition be set to scale to 4:3 so it looks normal.
I checked through a manual for your projector which I found on online. Please experiment with changing a few of the DVI input settings and see if it helps as I believe it should.
Try changing the PC System menu from Auto to D-SVGA. There are several D-SXGA options so please try each one. If none of them solve the problem, try D-UXGA.
If that still doesn’t help, then please give your closest Blackmagic Design support office a call so they can work through the problem with you.

Hi Alex,
You are correct that the DeckLink Quad and DeckLink 4K cards use DIN 1.0/2.3 connectors. Third party adapter cables exist or new cables can be made with a DIN 1.0/2.3 on one end and a BNC on the other.

The answer depends upon which format you are using. Here are a few rates to give you some idea of disk space requirements.
525 NTSC uncompressed 10 bit @ 720 x 486 @ 29.97fps = 27 MB per/sec, or 94 GB per/hr.
625 PAL uncompressed 10 bit @ 720 x 576 @ 25fps = 26 MB per/sec, or 93 GB per/hr.
720p HDTV uncompressed 10 bit @ 1280 x 720 @ 59.94 = 140 MB per/sec, or 494 GB per/hr.1080i and 1080p HDTV uncompressed:
10 bit @ 1920 x 1080 @ 24fps = 127 MB per/sec, or 445 GB per/hr.
10 bit @ 1920 x 1080 @ 25fps = 132 MB per/sec, or 463 GB per/hr.
10 bit @ 1920 x 1080 @ 29.97fps = 158 MB per/sec, or 556 GB per/hr.Regards,

According to page 6 of your projector’s manual, “This projector can not display image of over 1600 x 1200 dots.” This means it cannot accept a HD1920x1080 signal via it’s DVI input and you will need to set the output of your mixer to a maximum resolution of HD720p.
After setting the mixer to output 720p, please open the HDLink Utility software, go to the (inconspicuous) HDLink Utility menu and choose Preferences. Enable the option to “Override Monitor’s Preferred EDID settings” and click “Close“. Does this help to overcome the problem?

Hi Rodrigo,
A 1920 x 1080 display will be perfect for HD video. The reference to 1920 x 1200 predates the existence of 1920 x 1080 computer monitors. I’ll ask for that to be updated. Thank you for pointing it out.

Here’s an extract from page 12 of the current Resolve for Mac Configuration Guide dated 22 December 2010:
“Resolve works with any certified 2008 series Mac Pro for uncompressed SD and HD in real time and full quality. When working in HD, set the “Video bit depth” to “8 bit” in the Video Monitoring preferences of the Configuration screen. This has no impact on render or tape quality and all SDI I/O is at full bit depth quality.”
If your Mac Pro is a 2008 model, then you are only going to see realtime performance if you work with uncompressed video. You mentioned that you are using ProRes and this is placing a significant extra load on the CPUs in your computer which is probably the main reason why you aren’t seeing realtime performance.
Secondly, make sure that you set the “Video bit depth” to “8 bit” in the Video Monitoring preferences of the Configuration screen as this will be necessary for any chance of realtime performance on a 2008 Mac Pro. I hope this helps.

I think you must be referring to the framestore and downconversion features of the original Workgroup Videohub. It was the only model of Videohub to have these features and the current Videohub software still supports these features in the Workgroup Videohub. Accordingly you may see some grayed out items in the menus for these Workgroup Videohub features.
No other model of Videohub, including Broadcast Videohub, has ever had, or advertized as having, the framestore or downconversion features of the original Workgroup Videohub.
Both models of ATEM Production Switchers provide sophisticated keying support as well as downconversion and can be used in conjunction with Broadcast Videohub.

Initially I tried a Blackmagic SDI to HDMI mini converter and then a HDMI to DVI cable which did not work “Unfortunately running an HDMI signal in to a DVI display usually will not work. This is because most DVI displays/projectors expect a 60 Hz signal whereas HDMI will be sending it the native video frame rate which could be 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30 Hz, etc. When you input SDI video in to your Mini Converter SDI to HDMI, it outputs at exactly the same frame rate and that is unlikely to be compatible with the DVI input of your projector. HDMI fully supports DVI signals but DVI only works with some HDMI signals.
The HDLink Pro DVI Digital should work perfectly for you and supports all of the SDI variations that you listed. It will take your SDI signal and apply pull down processing to adapt the video for your DVI projector. Any delay introduced by this processing will also be applied to the audio outputs of the HDLink Pro so that video and audio are kept in sync.
You mentioned that your projector has a DVI-I input. DVI-I supports both DVI-D (digital) and DVI-A (analog) signals. It will certainly accept the DVI-D output from the HDLink Pro DVI Digital.
In conclusion, the HDLink Pro DVI Digital should work fine with your SDI inputs and your DVI projector.
