Sorry if I have confused you. I was simply saying to Bill that there is some RT support for standard definition in the current v4.8.1 drivers. I was not implying that there was more than in v4.8. We do have more RT effects for SD and HD planned for another driver update and Grant believes these will be in the v5 drivers.

Can you let me know what issues you would like resolved when working with Premiere Pro? I don’t know if it’s something with which we can help or whether it would require a change to Premiere Pro but, if we can help, we’ll do our best.

Hi Emery,
I’ll try to find out the cost of the bridge card from the Blackmagic team at NAB 2005 when they ring the office. I’m not sure if the price had been worked out as it is very new and happened just before the show. I’m sure Grant will make the price attractive, even though there’s a lot of components on the card, as the whole idea is to make low cost products. Hopefully G5’s will have PCIe in the future and in which case the bridge card would become obsolete. You can see the card at https://www.blackmagic-design.net/products/multibridge/ under the heading “Apple Mac G5 PCI-X Compatibility”. Don’t look too hard as I just found another grammatical error 😉
In regards to the feature sets, you can check out the specs for the Multibridges with and without PCIe. I think there are some differences in the analog audio options which may or may not be relevant to you. The two specs pages are at:

The DeckLink Windows v4.8.1 drivers include some RT effects in SD. We’ve got more planned as well as HD RT effects.
I should have mentioned that this comment is in relation to Premiere Pro 1.5.1.

I’ve got a list of questions to ask the Blackmagic team at NAB when they ring the office so I’ll ask about Vegas then. I do know that Sony provided us with a custom plug-in for the last year which allowed us to run Vegas 5 with DeckLink cards. It was never made available to customers as it was kind of a temporary bridge to make the two products work together. As far as I know, it was happily previewing in real time but I’ll ask for that to be confirmed with Vegas 6. It’s nice to have choice no matter what platform you are using. Vegas v6 adds to the existing choice of tools for Windows XP users and it specifically uses the DirectShow support in DeckLink drivers to control the card. There are lots of features that can be controlled via DirectShow and I can’t wait to receive more information from the show and have a play with the finished product.

Here’s everything I know, about Vegas and DeckLink, which isn’t much 😉 The following was copied from Grant’s email to customers.
Sony Vegas v6 is also supported in this new DeckLink for Windows update, and we know a lot of people have been asking for this. Support is mostly for standard definition currently, however we expect that to expand. We will be showing Sony Vegas on one of our demo stations at NAB playing back to DeckLink.
I don’t know about RT effects and you mind find out more information on the booth if you are at NAB. I’ll try to find out but I’ve only just found out about compatibility with Vegas v6 and don’t know about any specific features. The driver update referred to above will be in the DeckLink v5 drivers for Windows due fairly soon.

Hi Alisa,
I believe you should just copy the settings that you can see in Final Cut Pro HD for the DVCPRO HD easy setups. In other words, set the field dominance to Upper field first for interlaced HD (eg 1080i60) and set it to None for progressive HD (eg 720p60).

I hope so and that is the plan. We’re embarrassed and frustrated by the delays. The short version of the story is that the chip which handles analog input has had bugs and the supplier had to make new chips to rectify the problem. This took much longer than we had ever expected and the timelines we were given for their delivery were very unclear and so we just didn’t have clear information to provide to customers which was just terrible. We’ve just received new chips which are supposed to fix the problem but we’re being extremely cautious and running some time-consuming tests to show up any other issues which might or might not occur with the replacement chips. If all the tests go well, then we would ship the current Multibridges very soon as they are already built and ready to go. If the tests don’t go so well, then it will take longer. It’s really frustrating not to be able to provide definitive timelines to customers and I don’t even want to provide you with an estimate as it would just be fiction. However as soon as there is news, we’ll definitely post it here.
