Hi Lee,
If you want to capture in HD from the HDV camera via Firewire, the only option available to you will be to use an Apple or Blackmagic HDV easy setup. When you then play out via the DeckLink Extreme card, it will automatically down convert the output to NTSC or PAL. Please also see the support note HDV capture preview missing in Final Cut Pro HD 5.0.
If you want to capture in SD from the HDV camera via Firewire, the only option available to you will be to use the Apple DV easy setup and you will also need to configure your camera to output DV rather HDV. You can then use a Blackmagic DV easy setup to output via the DeckLink Extreme.

Many thanks for your very useful information. I haven’t used Color Finesse myself but I’ve tried to use your post to create a support note on our web site. Would you please review the support note Using Color Finesse with DeckLink and let me know if you think it is accurate? Color Finesse works on PC’s too so I have kept the note fairly generic. I would also be happy to credit you in the support note unless you prefer it the way it is.

Please see my previous reply to your original post. I need answers to these questions to try to work out why you are experiencing problems. Chris Tomberlin’s previous suggestion to switch the device control from Sony to Panasonic RS-422 is also worth trying as that definitely helps with some Panasonic decks. All Blackmagic easy setups default to using Sony RS-422 device control except for the 720p easy setups which are set to Panasonic. So it is definitely worth tryin the Panasonic setting in your case and hopefully it might help. Otherwise please answer the questions from my previous post.

Can you please check that the deck is set to LTC or Auto. If the switch has been changed to VITC, then this would explain your problem.

We’re working on a common software platform for all Multibridge models. Once this is released, we should have a firmware update to add Down Conversion to the existing Multibridges. We really want to add that feature soon and but it required a change to the software/firmware to make it work well so we’re working on that now.

Hi Lars,
You say that timecode is not available any more in Premiere Pro but that you can control the deck using Blackmagic Deck Control. Can you see timecode in Blackmagic Deck Control?
Are you using the latest Premire Pro 1.5.1?

Yes, that will work fine unless you are using the DeckLink card to output black video back to the deck during capture. Details are provided at Broadcast monitor goes black during capture.
If you are using external reference, such as a blackburst generator, then you can set the Black Video Output to Deck in Capture menu to Disabled and this will allow you to monitor video via any SDI or analog video outputs during capture.

DeckLink cards will allow you to monitor DV material after you have captured via Firewire but I don’t think you can monitor during capture from Firewire. I will see if we can test this out in the next couple of days when there is a free moment.

This should work fine assuming your HD frame rate is at a NTSC or PAL-compatible frame rate. Can you check View>External and ensure it is set to show All Frames?

Hi David,
I’m not sure which drivers and version of Final Cut Pro HD you might be using so I shall refer you to the support note Why are there multiple 8-bit codecs?.
Don’t use the DVOO as that is the old format to support Digital Voodoo files and it is not compatible with the common 2vuy and 2Vuy standards for 8-bit media.
If you are using the DeckLink 5.0 drivers, I would suggest using Apple’s Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 codec as we now standardize on Apple’s codecs whenever possible. The support note provides further details. Both the Animation and Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 codecs are both Apple codecs so they should convert well.
