When transcoding from QT animation codec to 8-bit, what’s the difference when choosing BM 89 Bit (2Vuy) vs. BM 8 Bit (DVOO) vs. the Apple’s Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2??? Which is preferable???

    TIA,

    Hi David,

I’m not sure which drivers and version of Final Cut Pro HD you might be using so I shall refer you to the support note Why are there multiple 8-bit codecs?.

Don’t use the DVOO as that is the old format to support Digital Voodoo files and it is not compatible with the common 2vuy and 2Vuy standards for 8-bit media.

If you are using the DeckLink 5.0 drivers, I would suggest using Apple’s Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 codec as we now standardize on Apple’s codecs whenever possible. The support note provides further details. Both the Animation and Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 codecs are both Apple codecs so they should convert well.
