Luke – Is there any word for a fix for DVC Pro audio with v5 drivers?
Posted by Robert Brown on August 27, 2005 at 10:54 pmI’m still trying to get an answer to this question. How can I get embedded audio to work with the Panasonic AJHD150 decks? The audio cuts in and cuts out back and forth. I have tried all settings I could think of on the deck and in FCP. AES audio works fine but then I can only export 2 channels to an 8 channel deck. Deck is synced to input. I’ve tried genlocking the BM HD Pro card and no difference. I saw there were fixes in the 4.81 drivers. Has this problem been duplicated? Do you need any more info?
Thanks
Robert

August 30, 2005 at 6:12 amHi Robert,
Please see my previous reply to your original post. I need answers to these questions to try to work out why you are experiencing problems. Chris Tomberlin’s previous suggestion to switch the device control from Sony to Panasonic RS-422 is also worth trying as that definitely helps with some Panasonic decks. All Blackmagic easy setups default to using Sony RS-422 device control except for the 720p easy setups which are set to Panasonic. So it is definitely worth tryin the Panasonic setting in your case and hopefully it might help. Otherwise please answer the questions from my previous post.

August 30, 2005 at 7:07 amThis problem has exsisted with FCP 4.5, not sure which BM drivers but all of the recent ones until FCP 5.0 came out, and now I still get it with FCP 5.02 and QT 7.01 – although I’ll have to double check the QT vers. – and OS X 10.4.2. The deck is set to auto sync which goes to input on record, and the Black video output to deck in capture is on the SDI out but I’ve tried most of these settings both ways. There is no trisync involved I’m sending the deck SD Bl Burst since this is a 59.94 deck although I’ve disconnected the sync and it made no difference. I forgot to try to output using Deck Control but I doubt this will work. The thing is Sony decks or at least an SRW-1 and 5500 read it fine. I will also try another deck and make sure both are having the same problem. But this problem has existed since I got this card, and at one point I did try a replacement and it was no better. And as I mentioned before this was with FCP 4.5 – 5.02 and everything in between, and various BM drivers and various versions of Quicktime and it has NEVER worked right except with Sony decks. I will make sure though I try exactly everything you mention though.

August 31, 2005 at 10:30 amHi Robert,
This is very interesting information.
[Robert Brown] “I will also try another deck and make sure both are having the same problem. But this problem has existed since I got this card, and at one point I did try a replacement and it was no better.”
Someone was telling me yesterday that they believe the SDI on the Panasonic AJHD150 decks is known to have problems. I asked them for information to verify that claim and haven’t received it as yet. However that was their firm belief and I am still chasing information to substantiate that claim. That would fit in with the fact that you have never got this to work properly and it will be very interesting to see if another deck has the same problem. Thank you for checking that out and I will be very interested to learn of your results testing with the alternate deck.

September 27, 2005 at 3:47 pmHi Guys,
I ran across this message when searching for panasonic stuff in google.
I have had the same problem with the AJ-HD150 and FCP with decklink cards.
At Leo Ticheli Productions we are just taking the AES lines to the HD150. They have not needed to do any multi- channel HD stuff yet.
However, I do believe this is a flaw in the electronic or firmware design in the 150 not the decklink card. Because I’ve seen reports of the same thing happening on an AvidDS Nitris system.(https://www.avid.com/onlineSupport/supportcontent.asp?contentID=8195)
In my tests I have found that changing BM drivers did not solve the problem. I have even talked to an engineer at Panasonic about the problem. As usual they were trying to blame the other companies and bypass any possibility that they had a problem. The embedded audio does work on the 150 if you have an HD 130 as a direct source. I have done that test.
I’m still waiting for Panasonic to come up with a solution.
Good luck,Joe Renna
