Try restarting and going into an easy set-up. Even if you haven’t changed anything, I have had the problem you are talking about and that fixed it. Worth a quick try anyway. Good Luck.

The EDL function does work, although it can be very buggy. Automatic Duck helps DRAMATICALLy and will perserve much more of the original edit than an EDL. Also, keep in ming, that FCP will only translate 1 video layer and 4 audio, so you may have to do multiple EDL exports and then put them back together once they are in. I have experienced a lot of problems when trying to bring in EDLs and it can be very frustrating, especially when there is a client sitting there. Try several export settings from Avid because some of them don’t work at all. Good Luck!

I have had the issue you are having before and I think the reason it is looking blurry is that you need to render. Yes, it will play in real time, but it will be an approximation of the render. I think this varies between systems, but you should not be experiencing a loss of quality if you scale something down that is that big, only if you scale it up. Motion is a good alternative if you have it and it makes it really easy to animate pics. Good Luck

One way to work when exporting clips to motion to avoid the offline problem is to copy the source clips in FCP on top of themselves(nested or not) and send the copy, which is on a higher video level, not the original clip, to motion and go ahead and keep the embed box checked. This way, if you redigitize the timeline, you have the source clips there and they will be digitized for motion to then see them. You can also disable the source clip in case you have any conflicts with crops or alphas or anything else that would make your original unaffected clip visible. There are probably a few ways to deal with this problem – this is just one that I have found to be pretty efficient and simple.

OK, now I got it. Make a new sequence that is the dimensions you want (200X200 or whatever). Adjust the video in the motion tab so it only contains what you need be scaling and adjusting the position. Now eport your QT which should automatically be 200X200. Good Luck.

When you say size do you mean clip length or image size, as in pixels. If you are talking about making a subclip into it’s own QT, quicktime conversion will only make the .mov from your in and out points so that should work.

You can export an OMF from FCP for a Pro Tools suite, although I have had lots of missing tracks show up when I do this and pans and envelopes did not come across as well as hoped. However, when using Automatic Duck on the ‘export to digital audio workstations’ preset, I have had very good success. This plug-in is not cheap but is well worth its cost due to the time it has saved me as well as preserving my relationship with the sound mixers who get these omfs.
