Hi Felix,
The Green LED indicates a problem with the drive. Go into the SMART (SHI) section of the Highpoint UI and let’s take a look at the health status of drive 2. If the drive does not show any errors, we can take a look at the EVENT LOG to get some if there is any recent information on disk 2.Please forward a copy of the log to luis@proavio.com when you have a moment.

Hi Ruben,
Connecting your GSpeed Q to a separate computer will allow you to share the storage between multiple systems. Will you have the ability to “edit” from that storage in real-time? Probably not, but this will depend on the codec/format. If that is the intention, you will need a bigger pipe (SAS, FC, Thunderbolt) going to the server as well as adding NICs to your server and clients for bandwidth, a decent managed switch, etc.You can see where Bob is coming from regarding the cost of implementing a shared “editing” storage solution.

The RAID chip or algorithm, in the case of some chipsets, will be able to duplicate the data onto a replacement drive if you have a disk failure. Technically your data and the remaining drive should still mount(usually in a “degraded” state) after failing a drive.

You will need an enclosure that is using the same chipset at the iStoragePro iDock II. It is always best to use the same enclosure model. RAID-1 implementation can vary from chipset or firmware.

Hi Michael,
I am not familiar with the iStorage Pro idock II, but it does sound like the internal board has gone bad. I would look at getting the enclosure serviced or replaced. If you recreate the RAID-1 set with the current enclosure you may run into the same situation down the line.Luis Rodriguez

Chris, that does not look good. Apart from using Green drives which are not recommended for RAID use there could be something else causing the peformance issues.
Which PCI-e slot is the Areca card installed in?
Drop me an email, I have a few tweaks that may improve your situation. For the moment I would recommend creating two 4-drive RAID sets and volumes. Compare the performance between the two volumes and see if the numbers are consistent. From there we can try to isolate the issue and determine if we have a potential problem with one or more drives.

Seagate Barracudas are great if you are running compatible firmware. I would save myself the headache and go with Hitachi.

I would not recommend the Highpoint 2722 due to reliability issues encountered by countless Highpoint users. Stick with a proven solution/combination (ATTO, Areca, Proavio, etc) and enjoy the creative freedom offered by products that are specifically designed for video professionals. Do your homework and shop around, professional-grade options are more affordable than you think.

Although “green” drives are not recommended for RAID use, it sounds like you may be reaching the FW800 chipset limitation on your Startech enclosure at 60MB/s in RAID-10.

The 2314 is not a true “hardware” RAID controller and will use your system resources. The card will see the various drives as a disk pool and allow you to manually group the drives into user defined RAID sets or individual volumes.
