Hello Devon
To accomplish this effect you need to use “Track Matte”. Your black text will go in the first position, the blue box will be second. Then you apply a track matte to the blue box layer (the track matte will read the layer above, which will be your text). To easily make the color changes, create a new white solid and put it below the blue box (must be the same size) and in the blue box layer select “Alpha Inverted Matte”.Change the blending mode of the text layer to “Color Burn” and you are done. If you did it right, moving the text over the box will make it white and moving away from the box will turn black.

Hello Brian
The link Bill posted are prebuild presets that makes life so much easier (thank God for those), but the effect is not that hard to do in After Effects. First create a new Red Solid and add the following effects: Hue/Saturation and CC Light Rays
After this you will need to animate the CC Light Rays using a couple of keyframes. I animated the “Intensity” and the “Color”. I also animated the “Opacity” of the Red Solid. With the layer opacity you will be able to control the amount of color intensity of the transition (also the start and ending point). Here are the values I use: (Note: I use a 1920×1080 Square Pixels composition)
Hue/Saturation
Check Mark “Colorize”
Colorize Hue: 0x +8.0
Colorize Saturation: 45CC Light Rays
Intensity: This one have two keyframes. The first keyframe value is 0, the second keyframe (which is 10 frames from the first) has a value of 1300.
Center: 1888.0 38.0
Radius: 104.0
Warp Softness: 205.0
Shape: Round
Uncheck “Color from Source” and select a your desirable color. You will need to keyframe the color to make the color change from soft red to the yellowish color. This color keyframes must be the exact same distance as the “Intensity” keyframes (in my case is 10 frames). I use the following colors; first keyframe F8814D, second keyframe E7C731.
To increase the transition intensity, increase the opacity from the whole layer. The opacity keyframes needs to be animated at the exact same distance as the “Intensity” and “Color” keyframes (in my case 10 frames). Of course, the opacity starts at 0%, but when you want the transition to start, you make the first keyframe with a value of around 50% and the second keyframe with a value of 100% (so you will end with three keyframes in Opacity)That how you do the transition from the video. Of course, why bother doing all this work when you can buy a pre made preset 🙂

Thanks for all the advise, I finally finish my first After Effects video tutorial. I invite you to see it here https://xeneuxe.com/lomaymi/after-effects-tutorial-paypal-animation/
I made a lot of mistakes (A LOT) while recording the tutorial. Since I did it in both English and Spanish, it was twice the amount of work and twice the mistakes :-). I just record live what came to my mind following some key points in a script and practice a lot before recording. The English version was a little more difficult because is not my native language and sometimes I had to stop to think what word to say (translating in “real time”). I used Screenium and fix all the mistakes in Premiere Pro (thank God for the magic of editing). Once again, thanks for all the help, I will sure make more exciting tutorials later on.The meaning of a movie are the characters, the life of the movie is the music, but the magic is in the editing.

Wow I never seen something like that. The first choice in the YouTube video (“Shoot the Bear” “Don’t Shoot the Bear”) can be done using the the “Spotlight” tool located in “Annotations” when you edit your video in YouTube. You still need to add the text in the video and later draw the box with the hyperlink to you other interactive video. Now the other part inside the channel seems to be a pure Flash animated website. How they did that inside the YouTube channel, no idea, but is cool.

That strange, it never happen to me before. When things like this happen to me, that I know they should be working, I simply save a copy of the project and restart Premiere from the copy. Usually this fix the problem.

I’m writing another article of other things to consider beside Facebook, such as Linkedin profiles, Klout score and forum participation. Like you I passionately participate in forum discussions (mostly Videomaker and starting to like the COW). For me participating in forum discussions is the best quality you can find in a potential employee because, most likely, that person is going to be more helpful than others. Of course, there are people that only ask and never participate in forums, so participation is what should be consider.

Excellent suggestion Mark. Although, like you mentioned, is less spontaneous, but it could work on some tutorials. Also, this could really speed up the process of making tutorials, I will definitely try this one out. Thanks

What do you want to write?. If is a text (for example “HELLO”), write the text > right click on the text layer > select “Create Mask from Text”. This will give you a mask for each letter so you will need to duplicate the light emitter according to your text (for example in HELLO you will need 5 light emitters). Then do as Bill recommended, copy and paste the light path data into the light position property.
Note: If you are using Particle World you need to make an expression to link the X, Y and Z values with the lights position. Andrew Kramer discuss how to do this in the tutorial 3D Stroke Effect in Video Copilot.net.
The expression will look something like thisx=thisComp.layer(“Light 1”).transform.position[0]-thisComp.height/2;x/thisComp.width

The easiest way to change the speed of the particles is by right click the particle layer > Time > Time Stretch > Increase the Stretch Factor percentage to your desired speed. Then RAM Preview a couple of frames to see if you got your desire speed.

Using Encore you can put as “First Play” the AFX video animation and when the video stops you will automatically redirect it to a menu (which will be a snapshot of the last frame of your AFX comp exactly when it stops). This can be done by setting up the “End Action” of your AFX animation to your menu. In that menu (which will be basically a snapshot) you can add one big button that will activate by mouse click (no matter where you click). Then you “Link” the other part of your AFX animation to this big button and your animation will continue where it left of.
Two things you need to be aware; first you need to render your AFX compositions in two parts (based on your video being stop one time). This needs to be done because in Encore you will be linking your videos in different buttons.
Second, the menu that will act as the “stop” needs to be done in Photoshop by exporting the last frame of your AFX composition (this will be the last frame of your first video). Also a sudden change between resolutions could happen, so if your project is in HD use Encore Blu Ray settings or if is in SD use Encore DVD settings and set your AFX pixel dimensions exactly as the one you are using in Encore. Also the pixel dimensions of the snapshot imported in Photoshop should be the same.If you are doing this video presentation on a meeting or somewhere else, you can export this in an Image or DVD. An Image (ISO) works best. If you want it to post this video presentation online then Encore have the option to export to Flash.
