March 2, 2015 at 10:00 pm in reply to: Sorry to start a new graphics card thread, but I’m confused.I wish I could understand all the tech stuff about these video cards but I don’t.
I have two simple questions: With a “better video card”, will I see a difference on playback when I preview?
Will I see a big difference in the finished product?
I only edit about a dozen videos a year and I am not pressed for time.
I am using a GeForce GT 640 2 GB. I don’t really see any difference from the card that came with the computer.
I am a musician, when I buy audio equipment I turn my back and let the salesman play, many times I pick the least expensive choice.
I used to edit audio using studio monitors, but then I realize that most people view my video on a TV, now I mix using small inexpensive speakers, I get better results.
I wish I there was a way to audition video cards. -
Thank you John,
Many times I thought to move over to MAC, but I didn’t think it could run Sony Vegas and Cakewalk Sonar. I didn’t want to learn another program, I only edit about a dozen programs a year. -
Thank you John,
How much memory one needs to run multiple tracks on Vegas and use many audio and video effects?
Does a better video card make a difference?I removed the video card that I installed, I removed the UAD audio effect card and used Vegas using only with whatever the computer came with.
Everything works fine, but I am only running one video and audio track.I had to install the OS two times. I noticed that when I clicked on “My Computer” the system read: 32 GB memory installed (16 usable) When I called Cyberpower, the computer’s manufacturer, I was directed to install window 7 again. I did it, the result were the same.
Another “support tech” told me to do it again. After installing it again and having the same results, another “support tech” told me that this is normal because even if it is not usable the computer will use it if needed. Of course I didn’t believe that, I asked him to put it in writing and send me an e-mail, he refused. I contacted Crucial support, the memory manufacturer, the first question the tech asked was what OS you are using? When I told him Windows 7 Home Premium, he told me that Window 7 home Premium only supports up to 16 GB of memory.
My computer came with 16 GB, the motherboard support supports 32 GB but the Windows Home Premium only supports 16 GB.
This is crazy, the computer’s manufacturer tech support People didn’t know and the sales person at Crucial that sold me the memory didn’t know that Window 7 Home Premium only supports 16 GB. .
Now I am left with a dilemma: spend more money and upgrade to Windows 7 Professional to increase the memory to 32 GB, this would mean to re-install the OS, Vegas and Sonar, or return the memory, run on 16 GB and re install my video card and effect cards one at the time to see which is the one that is causing all the problems.
What is your opinion?
Thank you -
Hello John,
I upgraded the memory in the computer, I re-installed windows 7, I pulled out my “special video card”, I had to download a trial version of Vegas 12, because I don’t have the disk, I purchased it as a download. Next time I’ll buy the disk! It seems working right.
I tried to get support from Sony but they are still closed for “training”, they are only open to sell products. I wonder what is going on with Sony.
Do you know how I can get my program back?Thank you

Thank you John,
This is getting weird by the minute.
Under preferences, in the preview video window, they have a place where you choose the video card, by choosing one option the video is in sync, it works for a while then goes off again. They also have a place where you can choose sync by frames, I played with the bar to increase or decrease the frame sync, it works for a while then I need to do the same routine to make it work again. After struggling to make half hr. video I rendered it, this time it rendered.
Made a DVD, it is in sync! I need to get 3 DVDs out by next week, I guess that is the working mode for now.
If I am lucky enough to finish these videos, next week I will consider re-installing everything again including window 7 I already purchased the disk. One more question: When I make the DVD with DVD architect a window opens telling me that the media is not large enough for the project, even if the project is less then a GIG and the DVD is at lest four times the size, it has been doing this since I got Vegas 12 and DVD Architect 6. I click on “do it anyway” and it works fine. Does anybody else has this problem?
Thank you.

Hello John,
I thought I had all my problems resolved but I am back at square one.I went back to a project that I have done last year, I just inserted a date on the time-line. I noticed the audio was out of sync with video. I thought maybe it’s just the preview, I tried to render it but the computer crashed, I tried different templates with the same results.
I downloaded the trial version of Vegas 13, I pressed play, it played correctly but couldn’t stop it, I had to close the computer down to stop it. I set the computer back in time but that didn’t resolve the problem.
I tried a different old project with the same result.I’ve been calling Sony for a few days but a machine comes on: they are closed for training.
Maybe you or a member can offer some help?
Thank you

I think I solved all my problems!
I removed all the programs that installed themselves.
When I had problems with Vegas, one of the “tech” suggested for me to install VLZ (I think this was the name) to play videos, I noticed that at the same time a bunch of programs installed themselves. I removed them all, I couldn’t remove completely a program called “STRONGVAULT”
I was able to remove just part of it. I disconnected the computer from the Internet.I was able to do a 2 hrs project with 7 audio tracks and two video tracks, loaded with effects, without a problem.

November 9, 2014 at 11:10 pm in reply to: Simpliest way to delete time from all video and audio tracksGroup all the tracks, then split at the two points where you wish to delete, create new groups for the left section and the right section. As a group you will be able to grab all the tracks at the same time and slide them where ever you want.
If you don’t know how to create a group let me know.

There is always a possibility that there is something wrong with the new computer. Probably what I will do is finish the projects I am working on and start fresh with a new window 7 install.

Thank you John,
I think I was using Vegas 8.5, on an old computer running XP, I only had occasional crashes. I wanted to try Vegas 12 but it, if I recall, didn’t run on XP, so I went out and purchased a new CYBERPOWER, INTEL 7-3770, 3.50 HZ, 3.90 GHZ 16 GB MEMORY. I thought this would be great.
I purchased a NVIDIA GE FORCE (GT 6400), I got a new Echo audio4 for the sound. I removed my Universal Audio audio effects from my old computer and installed it in the new computer, this effects are very expensive but didn’t work with windows 8. So I ordered my new computer with windows 7, 64 bit.
I installed the new Vegas 12 on the new computer that is when my nightmare started, I was on the phone with Sony support many times. They told me to uncheck my NVIDIA card because they had some kind problems with the GPU acceleration, they were working on it to resolve the problem.
I was told to uncheck my Audiofire 4.
I was told not to use my expensive UniversalAudio effects.
After all this and one year later I am still crashing.I am at a point to remove and reinstall windows 7, but I don’t have the disk, next week I’ll call the computer manufacturer and see if they will send me a disk.
My project, usually contain 7-8 tracks of audio and 2 tracks of video.
The good thing is that even with all these crashes I was able to make some decent videos. Check my videos on you tube, just type: GINO DI NAPOLI in their search box.
