Thank you, this is a lesson learned the hard way. I already formatted the card. Next time I will go the extra step to copy the content to the hard drive. Yes, I just pulled the card out, I wanted to see what happens!
You seem to know much more then I do, maybe you may know why after one year of using Vegas 12 it still crashes so much that takes the fun out of editing. See original earlier e-mail for steps I have taken to avoid crashes and preserve my sanity, in the past I’ve spent hours on the phone with Sony’s support to resolve this problem.

I took the card out of the camcorder and inserted it in the proper computer’s port. I used the option in file import in Vegas to import it. I’ve done this with several times with other projects it works fine. In the past I never removed the card and finished the project completely before removing the card. This time I removed the card as soon I imported the files. I was curios to see if when I import the files from the card Vegas copies them or just uses the card as another hard drive. Vegas sees the card as a hard drive but I didn’t expect to loose all the files that were on the card.

    Hello John,
One Year later, my Vegas 12 still crashes a lot. Sony support, in the past, told me they have a problem with acceleration, they asked me to go in the setting and uncheck my Echo fire card, uncheck the GPU ACCELERATION CARD and not to use my Universal Audio effects. I did that but I am still crashing.

Something weird happened yesterday: I took the card that I recorded on from the camera, inserted it in the computer and I imported the video in Vegas. I was curios to see if the imported video would work without the card inserted in the computer, it didn’t. I inserted the card back in the computer, a window opened up saying that the card needed to be formatted, of course I didn’t and tried several other times with the same result. I lost all the videos on the card!
Imagine what a nightmare it would be if this happens to someone who shot a wedding?
I would like to know what went wrong, can anyone figure this out?

I don’t understand how Sony can put out a Vegas 13 without fixing the problems with 12?
My Vegas 12 also crashes a lot, at first Sony told me to go to properties/option preferences/ turn the GPU ACCELERATION OFF.
AUDIO DEVICE choose the Microsoft Mapper.
A year later I still can’t use my GPU ACCELERATION CARD (GT 640) ON
I can’t use my Audiofire 4 by echo.
To make matters worse, my VEGAS PRO still crashes. Any time I seat at the computer doing a project is an experiment in frustation.

I noticed that “Strong vault” and “auto play” are running in the background.
I think they cause the crashes.
    Does anyone know these programs?
I tried to remove Strongvault my windows 7 wont allow, a screen comes up saying that something is missing from windows.
AUTO PLAY doesn’t appear as a program in the control panel. I wonder if this program is not part of my external drive.

Thank you all the help is appreciated.

Look on top of your timeline, you have to small yellow arrows, this is your loop region, if it is selected to render just that region that is all it will render.

  • I too had the same problem. I read Paul’s answer I tried it and it didn’t work. However, his answer pointed me in the right area.

Under preference/general there is another tab on the right “Burner”
I clicked it, on the window that opened, left bottom corner there is a small box “legacy disk drive”. I unchecked it, now my DVD Architect sees my burner. It worked.

I’ve been asking Sony for over a week. They couldn’t solve the problem.

I have other problems I will ask another question.

Thank you Paul for pointing me to the right area.

    John,
I didn’t uderstand what to do.
Vegas 12 looks a little different then vegas 8. I am learning it.
In the past I simply rendered to Main concept 2.

I had something weird happening with this new version of vegas: the audio went out of synch by a lot. I used the option of synch by right click on the audio.
I am using a 32″ LCD as monitor and it appears it is still out of synch a little. I wonder what caused it to go out of synch to start with, I simply imported a file as usual. I never had this happening to me in Vegas 8. One thing I did different, I imported the file in the new computer using the card reader. With the old computer I imported direct from the camcorder using the software that came with it.

I am experimenting with the new system. I was able to connect a computer monitor and a television to the computer, they work fine together but display the same thing. Eventually I would like to have the full work screen on the computer monitor and only the preview screen on the television.

    Thank you John,

I’ll try as soon I can.

I just got a new computer with windows 7 and I am setting it up.

I just downloaded the trial version of Vegas 12.

Do you know if the projects made with Vegas 8.5 will work in the 12 version?

I make mainly music videos do you know what has changed in version 12 from 8.5 that will help me in making better videos?

    Thank you

    John,

I tried again. I used the Pan/Crop tool on the finished product, I was able to pool the black borders out, in the preview screen window. However, when I rendered it again and watched the video on my monitor which is a wide screen, it showed black borders on the sides.

I played around with the Project Properties and when I applied the changes, you can see the changes as they are applied. You can actually change the size by writng your own width and eight. The only problem is that my preview screen is square and small.

I think that probably in order to see exactly what is happening, I need to connect a separate monitor to the computer that shows only the preview screen. I think a large separate monitor would also allow me to see other problems that are not visible in the little preview window.

Can I attach another screen or television that will show only the preview screen?

On a similar subject for anyone who would like to know. I used to mix audio listening with 8″ “Studio Monitors”, the sound was never quite the same on the television. Now I use 3 sets monitors for reference. The 8″, a 4″ and a crappy cheap set of computer monitors.
The cheap speakers pics up deficiencies in the recording that the other more expensive “Monitors” don’t.

    Thank you

    Thank you John,

The Pan/Crop tool is the first thing I tried, I playd around with the crop tool on all 3 videos. I also played around with the frame options in Vegas, I couldn’t eliminate the black bars completely.

How can you crop just the black bars by moving them?

The 2 cameras shooting the subject in front of the green screen have been shooting in wide frame mode. The old old background video is not wide enough, somehow I need to stretch it on the sides

Buying another camcorder is not an option. The quality difference is something I can live with. Using color effects and Sharpness/Brigthness effects I am able to match them, enough that the average person can’t see the difference. I like better the DCR-VX2100, it is a lightweight well balanced camcorder, the ideal camcorder to carry along and shoot without a tripod.
    Thank you
