Sorry I was not clear…I am using a card reader so let’s table that. But…your suggestion of creating another folder is interesting workaround (though a ridiculous extra step in the grand scheme of things).

I will give that a try…or do the importing using the EOS Plug in in FCP 7 (to get my selects and make a .dmg file of the whole card) then restarting my lion/FCPX drive and simply importing the “Capture Scratch” file I created using the EOS Plug in.

To not be able to import from camera (or more precisely from the card in a reader) from a 5DMk3 is…dumb.

Uh, Not for nothing but I can tell the difference between my camera and a card in a card reader.

So you are saying that there are demons in my camera and I was able to do something you are not supposed to be able to do?

Thanks for all the input…importing works fine now. I have no idea why it did not before as I followed the normal procedure. Works now so thanks.

Thanks for the link Chris. Your post reminded me that I actually have an FX factory plug in with Globes (one of the Japanese plugs). I just checked and that particular plug does work in Motion 5. I know exactly what I can do and am good to go. Thanks again!

Even though I am still wiggling my way through the new interface, your “instructions” worked flawlessly. I have another question though, I am on and early 2009 Mac Pro with a stock video card. The performance of Motion 5 is on the slow side…and when I add a filter like Volumetrix is slows to molasses.

If I thought there was a new killer Mac Pro on the way soon I would wait…but absent that I assume I need to swap out the stock card with an ATI Radeon HD 5870 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro (Mid 2010 or Early 2009) at the low low price of $449. Yes?

    Mark…

I can say with absolute confidence that no matter what way I think it should be done in Motion I’ll be wrong about 70% of the time. Thanks for the course correction.

Thanks guys…seems kind of silly that you have to trick FCPX but whatever works, right?

  • Nope…

  • In addition to easing over to FCP X…it’s clean installed on a fresh drive with Lion as the OS…so there are numerous mysteries, Image Capture notwithstanding.

It occurred to me that there are about 5 stills on this card…so I guess that’s why Image Capture is intruding on the process. But I do close it and it just keeps popping back up. I’ll go shoot a clean card with only video to take that of the equation.

    Thanks…
