April 11, 2010 at 2:51 am in reply to: a magic wand tool for contiguous pixels ?

    Hi Walter ! 🙂
Thanks for the idea, I had never used this tool in AE ! 🙂
And what’s great is that I don’t even have to go through each frame separately, I just have to specify the right Fill point !
That said, it has some strange behaviour though.
For instance, I specified a Fill point in one loop, but when I make a preview, one other loop is filled as well, one frame here one frame there.
I tried to resolve it by animating the Fill point, but it doesn’t work : wherever I put the Fill point (into the 1st loop), the 2nd loop is filled as well.
Whereas one frame earlier or after, everything’s fine.

I can’t find the logic in there. Any ideas ?
By the way, if there are other effects that would be used in this situation, it still interests me ! 🙂

    Thank you all,

Maybe the Panorama script could help ?

Have a look to this tutorial to see if it fits :
https://jmdesignco.com/pro/tutorials/after-effects-lexus-tutorial-by-barbecue (2nd tutorial in the list)

    😉

  • Thank you for your answer, Xinlai !
After some rest I just found the solution : the link to the custom particle had been cut… Though I can’t understand why it was cut in one precomp and not in the other, I copied twice the custom particle layer with the main particular layer…
    Anyway, everything is fine now.

But I keep in mind your proposals, Xinlai. I’m not used to work both with Particular and Cameras, and it could become very useful, since I could do the mistake.

    😉

  • Well, more accurately, i wrote the expressions in one of the precomp, and the Particular disappeared.
Trying in the 2nd precomp, the expressions works well ! (adding .transform or not).

But no way to have the particular back in the 1st one ! Changing the camera doesn’t make it visible, and when I make a copy of Particular “Right”, copied into the precomp “Left” (which works), it doesn’t appear there either !! (the Particular “Left” appears, no problem with it)

So, the problem seems to be in Particular “Right”… but I didn’t change anything there… ??

(Opacity 100% and eye opened of course !)

    Any idea ?

    Thanks ! 🙂

    Thank you Larry,
The puppet tool has given the best results so far, and I’m going to check the Freeform plugin.

    Hi Wu,

Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately I didn’t keep the .ai file. But since I’ll drop in on this employer next week, I’ll make it again, and if it still doesn’t work, I’ll send you the file.

For what I can say by now, there was no pixel images into the file, just 2 layers with “2009” (normal and reversed).

For this time, I could make the whole thing differently (making the letters into the text generator, normal “2009” just one time, and duplicating the layer to make the reversed one), but for other projects I could really be in a mess…

I come back to you as soon as I can ! 🙂

    Thanks,

  • Thank you Wu, it’s clear… Now I just need to be able to open an .ai file, as I say in another thread…. :-/

    Hi Edward,

Thank you for these answers. You write :

Both the object itself and the reflected object uses the same wrapping technique, the starting point for the textures will start at the bottom left.

that’s right, and you give me the idea to use an invisible item, an invisible “2” for instance, at the beginning of the reflection, in order to have the same starting point for both….

    You write :

In regards to your other post about the luminosity, if you rotated the 2009 so that it’s no longer upside down, then you will be looking at the back side of the object.

I didn’t rotate it : I just changed the Illustrator file. (keeping the right layers’names). I still don’t understand how it brings such a result, one very dark, and the other highly highlighted… :-/

I changed the ai file, in order to see better…. and it seems I was obtaining 2 times the same layer map… That is changed and re-checked now, but I can’t see the result, since the huge difference of luminosity. :

    ???
The 2 materials applied are both on ‘Absolute colors’.

    Any idea ???

    Thanks.
