Hi Edward,
Thank you for the tip of using absolute color, I didn’t think about it. Though, the issue isn’t solved yet, and I can’t understand why.
Here’s what I did (and checked 10 times) :
1/ A composition whose height is exactly the height of 1 range of numbers. A photography inside (the anchor point unchanged).
2/ A duplicate of this composition, and a change of scale of the photo (100/-100) to reverse it.
3/ The 2 compositions are imported into the main composition, where is my layer with ProAnimator applied.
4/ Into the Layer Maps list, I give the information : Layer Map 4 = normal outlines comp. ; Layer Map 5 = reversed outlines comp.
5/ Into Pro Animator, I apply the right layer map at the right place.
And absolute Colors for both.>>> what happens ?

That’s not a mirror. What would I have forgot ???Thanks for your help,

June 2, 2009 at 2:42 am in reply to: workflow : 2 panels to see changes from 1 effectThank you Stuart, you wrote exactly what I was about to answer.
I read (Keylight User guide p 24) that “It can also be useful to view the Status and Source side by side as shown in Figure 14 so that you can repeatedly pick from one while viewing the result in the other window.”But in fact, it seems the trick here is to open a footage window next to the Comp window.
That’s great if you want to compare a “status” or a “final result” to the source. But it means also the trick is useful only for the “Source” view.Thank you for your answers. And if you have other ideas, I’m always interested. 😉

June 1, 2009 at 2:09 am in reply to: workflow : 2 panels to see changes from 1 effectI read it is possible in the Keylight User guide, but there are no details, as though it was not due to Keylight, but rather a normal functionnality of AE.
I didn’t find anything about that in the Help of AE, but there must be a means…

Could you tell me how ? Because I asked the same question on the Zaxwerks forum, and the answer there is negative so far
(or it is possible by using a 2nd texture for the sides, but I imagine how tedious it must be to make match the lines, and it means the texture can’t be a video for instance…)Thanks,

@ Michael Szalapski :
That’s what I want to do :

the face mapping spread on the extrusion as though it was the depth of the faces.@ Brian Charles :
If you Pre Compose the shatter layer and make the PreComp 3D it will cast shadows. You’ll need a light in both Comps. With a little expression trickery you can have the light in the Shatter Comp use the settings from the Master Comp.
I’m trying, but I can’t find out how to make it yet. Could you give me some details ?
– At the moment, I just made a copy of the light and of the camera. So now I have :
1/ A precomp, with the shattered text, 1 light, 1 camera (used inside the shatter fx), and also a white solid (made 3D) to figure a background.
2/ The main comp, with the precomp (made 3D), the same light, the same camera, the same white solid (made 3D).
I made some tweakings, but I can’t figure out yet how to do…what I know : I need a light and a camera with the right settings in the Precomp. The shatter fx settings must specify it uses the light and the camera of the composition. The shattered layer cannot be in 3D itself.
– Do you write the expression on the position ? Both on position and point of interest ?
I tried this one on the Camera position (in the precomp):comp(03-Main).layer(Cam).transform.position
but AE doesn’t accept it (it says : Class ‘Camera’doesn’t have a property or method named ‘Main’ !?)
Great thanks ! 🙂

Hi Edward,
Thank you for these answers. About the extrusion mapping, I hope the next version of ProAnimator will take this issue into account.
Best,
Lucia

Thank you, Edward… but I have to say I know what you say, for having read extensively the Zaxwerks User’s guide… :-/
2 remarks :
– Creating a 2nd texture to wrap on the extrusion in order to meet the face map… is exactly what I’d like to avoid… Seems to me very painful…– About One single texture on all the letters’faces : I did what you say : all select + drag and drop, but as we can see on the “;-)” on my 1st photo, each letter is wrapped separately… I guess there must be a way for grouping the letters… :-/

Hi Joey,
Are you saying the BCC plugin enables the face mapping to be spread on the extrusion as though it was the depth of the faces ? That would be great ! 🙂
Though, sharp edges are very important for me, and that’s my main issue with the Shatter fx, with big letters impossible to get real sharp edges…
That’s the main reason why I was looking to give this depth with Zaxwerks plugins or with Maltaannon’s CE… -
Zaxwerks is great for the bevels, that’s right, but here I’m only talking about the different texture mappings :
– either a map on the extrusion that has no link with the map on the faces,
– or the possibility for the map on the faces to be given a ‘depth’ on the extrusion.
