Hmmm, that must be something new then. I have two GY-HM700’s and both have the 17X Fujinon lens on them. I can tell you that we haven’t had that problem with our lenses…

That’s odd, I’ve shot for an hour straight and not had that happen. What size are the cards you’re using?

My company owns two GY-HM700’s and we’re quite happy with the image quality. I don’t have a camera that shoots on P2, but given the massive difference in the cost of media, that could be a consideration too.

That’s a great question. HD is better than HDV, no question. Better quality, better image, just better IMHO. The ONLY reason I could think the 250 is more expensive is the tape drive that the 700 doesn’t need because it uses the SDHC cards. Other than that, I have no idea.

Is your diopter adjusted properly? While I haven’t had a problem achieving focus, I do find myself using the focus assist quite a bit, so maybe there is something going on there.
On a side note, we did a 3 camera shoot yesterday for an interview with our two 700’s for our singles and the 100 as the wide. I don’t know how much, if any, we will be using the footage from the 100, but it’ll be interesting to see how it will match. Of course, I know we’ll have to dial it in, but once it’s editing I’ll post a clip. Should be just after the new year.

Well, they cost twice as much, that’s a difference, right?
Seriously, I’ve never used the “master” cassette and seen a discernible difference. I’m sure they’re better made and others here ill give you all sorts of statistics on how they are totally worth it, but my eyes and the eyes of my clients are my gauge of “better”…and we don’t see it.

The Ikan V17 is a pretty good monitor at a reasonable price. At 17″ it’s big enough to actually be useful in the field or studio and has HDMI input if that matters to you.

why not use the GY-HM700 as your A camera and the HM100 as your B camera? that way your shooting on the same media and might have a better chance of the cameras somewhat matching.
