The reference monitor works if you want to open ONE of the scopes.
But what if you want to have the Waveform and Vectorscope open?
Because who would ever want to have them both visible at all times during color correction?
Premiere will not allow me to open a SECOND reference monitor. Am I missing something?

I’ve just started a new Facebook page asking Apple about the state of the MacPro. I know its a long shot but I’m hoping that I can get enough people to become a fan of the page, forcing Apple to make a statement on the status of MacPro lineup.

This is really cool unless you actually want to WATCH your timeline in real time.
If there are AE clips and interviews with multiple effects etc., then EVERY computer is going to have some amount of dropped frames. Batch processing in Media Encoder is great for the end of the day but there will always be a need to see a timeline play down in real time with all effects rendered.

So I’m guessing the answer is NO. I have to manually open then render each timline right?

Is there a way from within Premiere to add multiple timelines to the Media Encoder?

But think of it this way.
If one of your customers say 5 years ago invested X.XX amount in FCP workstations and shared media hardware – what would that cost have been if they would have done the equivalent AVID install?
I know the AVID solution would have easily be twice as high if not more. The service licenses alone would have cost a fortune. Which is probably one of the main factors why you pushed the Apple solution and probably a large factor in your customers decisions. The Adobe solution is a more comparable price point but their upgrade pricing is a joke. You also would have had media sharing issues over multiple workstations with Premier because its not set up for that kind of environment.

Take pride in knowing that you sold them the best product (because AVID editing solutions truly suck at this point in time) at the best price point and that your installs are still a functioning entity and will be for a few more years. Those installations will not owe your customers anything when it comes time to upgrade.

Also know that some developer will step up to the plate with a solution a void with a complementary product that Apple doesn’t offer. Such as networked storage and media solutions.

FCPX is 8 hours old at this point. Have a little patience.

The writing was on the wall at least 4 years ago when it cam to FCServer and Xsan.
Apple decided it didn’t want to compete with the AVID Unity installs and focused on iOS and moblie hardware. No needed to tell me that.

Your customers sill have functioning installations I’m sure. They can probably still get 3-5 more years out of them easily. At that point the landscape will be more clearly defined and they will have to make a decision.

OK Dave – Valid point.
But at what point did your company decide to jump in the FCP water with that big purchase?
Was it version 1.
When there was no hardware support?
Way before there was even a suite of applications?
Way before Logic existed?

I highly doubt you jumped in THAT early and if you did it wasn’t whole hog.

Look at your capabilities now. Your patience paid off. Especially because if you went with an AVID solution your investment would have been 10 fold in software alone if you count the maintenance fees.
And Adobe’s pricing leaves much to be desired as well.

So Media100 is now a viable alternative to FCPX.
A piece of software that is 7 hours old for a program that has been on life support for years.
A piece of software that developers have barely gotten a chance to play with yet. To write drivers for.

I never said it didn’t.
But most of those products are supporting applications.
Meaning that they are used in conjunction with other applications.
they are not a primary source of injest of material.
Fusion, Cineform, Nuke usually get their footage from edit workstations that have already acquired footage from sources like FCP AVID VEGAS or Premier.

I would bet the installed user base of FCP with an AJA product installed far outnumbers the Nuke, Cineform, AutoDesk and Media100 workstations with an AJA product installed. Mostly because those secondary workstations are complimentary to the edit stations where ingest happens.

AJA would be hurting if they lost the FCP community.

The AJA drivers are BETA drivers.
Meaning NOT THE FINAL version.
Meaning that they have room to grow.
CONSIDERING THE HOST SOFTWARE IS ONLY 6 HOURS THEY PROBABLY WILL GET BETTER.
Meaning they could mature to support more of the AJA hardware family.
Meaning just like FCP V1 they could create functionality that wasn’t there.
Like the ability to INGEST/OUTPUT TO SOURCES OTHER THAN FIREWIRE.
Which is one of the complaints on this board about the new version of FCPX even though it never existed in the original version without 3rd party support.

Did the installer ASK for the ID on each install or did it look at the ID that was in your MoblieMe pref pane or iTunes settings.
