  • Wow Cinema Tools is amazing! How does it do the conform SO fast?? Anyone know how it is able to do this – how would it compare to using AE in terms of results – obviously it would take longer to perform..i also did a test making the 24 fps material 29.97 – which it also did lightening fast – but i did notice the duration of each qt file shortened when i did this operation.

Anyways, thanks for the advise Gary – i had never used this app before.

  • I LOVE YOU GARY!

I AM SORRY FOR THE RANT…LONG DAY.

  • Dear Gary

I did read that indeed but was also advised by multiple people to stick with 24 so i did – did u not read that part of the chain? Now i am just asking anyone if they have some insight on the blackmagic card I have and if there are any tricks or workarounds i can use…I am well aware of the original posts i just wanted some helpful feedback about what is possible (i.e. grading using COLOR while frame is parked).

First let me just say that I have gotten and even given some great advice on these forums and am very appreciative to you and everyone else in this forum for taking the time to respond to posts and participate in this forum. Having said that I do wish to speak on something here.

Honestly Gary i mean no disrespect to you or your colleagues but you seem to hate on me or beat me up / kick my ass in this forum – i think others too or maybe iam mixing you up with other weird threads in which people get into it with each other and things become nasty.

I understand especially since i have made some hasty posts that were not all clear and rambled on but i think some of this is due to the fact that your responses have been vague sometimes…like there are a lot of mistakes one can make if all settings for instance in redrushes are not set properly…I find I’m posting more follow up questions and having them answered by others (i.e david & uli) because your replies only provoke more questions / confusion…if myself and other newbies are annoying you then why do u even bother participating?

RedAlert / Redrushes have limited user info and other forums are not so great…after having done searches on the cow forums for my question i figure why not ask some professionals…you get so pissed at people for not being experts it seems – why dont u just have a SUPER AWESOME PRO forum then and just not read / respond to these forums??

RED is complicated / confusing and a whole new world its not like iam asking you how to log a clip!

Anyways i hope you dont take this the wrong way – I do really appreciate your time it just sucks to have someone be SO snarky at you and provide answers that only leave you looking for more answers. Its just this negative vibe i’m feeling and look what can I say I’m young and new to this profession and hungry for knowledge – i am on this forum looking to fill in the blanks that a manual or lack there of cant provide. This business has so many formats and things to keep in mind that its extra frustrating when u get hated on when you are struggling to wrap your head around something.

I read the manual, i do searches for answers but i love the cow still – i buy the dvd’s i read the mag and i read the forums all the time so hopefully you all dont hate me now : )

  • Hey there
thanks for the reply – i guess i am just not familiar enough with photoshop to be able to understand all of these steps …i literally need a step by stepo for dummies…honestly i just need to get more familiar with PS obviously…if u have the time or energy to explain in detail that would be awesome.

    regardless thanks for your time

    Hey Chris

haha yeah its true i am so sorry to always post the nightmare stuff on this site : ) but just know that your help means a lot to me personally and u guys have saved my butt on many occassions – i wish i could send u all a cake and a hug : )

one question – i was a bit confused by this part “se the Lancoz (if thats how its spelled) setting for resizing the footage down (looks best)
and the debayer at 1/2” – where do i do these settings??

    thank you

    Lisa

  • Hey there

so the work flow u described is what we first did and the end result when playing back the dvd on an ntsc monitor is that it looks weird – kinda jittery.

not sure what is going on but i would love to figure out what if anything i am doing wrong here : )

thanks so much for your time you rock sir!

  • Hey there

This whole time i WAS talking about using the 1800i render from fcp – originally it was 720p60 like the beginning post explains but then the final piece was in fcp and had supers added by another editor and that final 1080 sequence in fcp is what was layed off to hdcam and dubbed to digi – both those tapoes went out last week and now all i have is the 1080i quicktime movie from fcp – the length is 2 mins btw

SO i just wanted exactly AE directions becuase i was not sure where / or when to make it lower fields or what not – and my big concern was that because it started at 23.976 720p60 footage and was then converted to 1080i 29.97 fps 59.94 fields there would be issues – i did a few different test in AE and each DVD i made had weird flickery on the dvd player playback to ntsc monitor – i posted again because i thought i did something wrong in AE and wanted to know the proper workflow.

    thanks
    Lisa

  • Hey Dave : )

I love your responses – they look so great (bullets) and are just awesome help. Just one problem – at this point we are working off of the converted 1080i fcp project – supers had been added and its the final version in my fcp timeline – i no longer have a 720p60 comp to work with – so it started as 720p60 was convrted to 1080i for hdcam sr layoff and now that same file that was layed off and shipped out needs to go to an SD DVD.

What should i do if i dont have the ability to dub from hdcam to digi and then ingest – if i have to use AE or FCP what is the best solution to get a dvd that doesn pot playback with jitteriness – which is my problem in the first place : )

    best

  • hey Joey,

So i guess my question was more specific because i did do the nesting you mentioned in AE and but then i am not sure whether to touch any settings there or in the renderque to set it to lower fields and choose a cadence (wwsssw – or whatever).

    thoughts?
