    Hey RED friends!

Firstly i am running the latest & greatest version of FCStudio on the following system:

    MacPro
    2×3.2 ghz quad-core intel
    16GB RAM
    ATI Radeon HD 2600
    Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme 2
Internal 2TB RAID 0 drive for media
NTSC Calibrated Monitor for CC work

I also downloaded the RED Final Cut Studio Installer, REDCODE QT Codec v3.8 & REDCODE CS4 Installer in order to work with the highest rez RED material – my thinking is that because its only 30 GB of footage, iam on a pretty fast system, and its short form I should be able to use the native stuff.

I had a look at the RED FCS Whitepaper and it kinda just left me with more questions : )

I am pretty new to RED camera workflow and I have just been handed a hard drive with some really amazing footage shot on the RED. The DP has told me that he shot at 2 different resolutions and frame rates.

    1) 2K is slow motion stuff and he is saying that it was shot at 78fps?!

    2) 4K (majority of the footage) @ 24 fps

I am being asked to cut x6 :30 spots and then CC in Color for final output – which i believe will be for this DP’s website…but of course I have not talked to him at length about delivery whether it needs to be 4×3 ltrbxed or 16×9.

I guess my question is how should i process the footage for editing in FCP & CCing in Color, what format should my timelines be i.e 1920×1080 or higher?? frame rate/ etc…

Any help and advice you guys might be able to offer would b e awesome in that I am new to this workflow.

    Thank you

    Lisa

probably better responses in the RED forum Lisa.

You sure do get the fun projects don’tcha? 😉

You need to ask your client what frame rate.

from the looks if it, they will want 1080P 23.976 as the final format.
the 78fps stuff is no doubt meant to play back slower–I would assume. so conform it to 23.976,
but DO confirm with your client first.

use the Lancoz (if thats how its spelled) setting for resizing the footage down (looks best)
    and the debayer at 1/2.

convert them to PRORES HQ files, then edit and cc away!

I just finished an awesome red project myself (best work I’ve ever done yet)

I really meant it when you get the “fun projects” that kind
of work is what I enjoy doing the most. 🙂

In the “redcine” app you can set the resizing algorithm used.

Lancoz will ensure there is as little aliasing as possible..if any at all.
I think bicubic is also an option, but lancoz is the best.

debayer is the amount of anti-aliasing the software does from the raw image, at less
than 1/2 you might see aliasing, more than 1/2 is only necessary if you
are outputting to film or going beyond 1080P for your final mastering.

maybe check the documentation and search for these terms to see
where those options are. right now I farm out .r3d to prores .mov conversions
because I don’t have macpro yet (still on G5) but next month I’m upgrading.
