  • I agree, Juan

at the moment I monitor the audio from the deck but that’s not ideal if you want to work without a mixer.

It does video out, so why not audio?

  • I’m cutting a 13 part series for Discovery in the UK at the moment. I am in a facility surrounded by Avids and freelance editors and all of them come into my suite and want to see what my FCP rig can do (it gets hard to get any work done sometimes.)

Not once has a senior producer or comissioning editor asked what system I was using (I suspect they don’t care) as long as I deliver the cuts on time.

A lot of guys in the UK are using it for corporate or independent movie production but it still feels a bit like Avid’s poor second cousin. The editors love it but FCP only facilities are stuggling a bit.

    thanks, guys

Things are pointing to the graphics card. Its a Radeon 9800XT 256. It has an enormous heat sink on it which takes up the 2nd slot as well which is a pain as I’d like to get a firewire pci card in it. Any ideas? (Slot 3 has the Decklink and 4 has a Sata card)

Hopefully the SDI option will sort it out.

Thank God I’m not in the support contract business – Luke, your input on this forum is one of the main reasons I went for a decklink over the competition.

I have a 1082 as well but I’m struggling to get it to work with FCP 5.

I suspect it is conflicting with the LaCie Big Disk that I have on the same FW bus. I got another PCI FW card but I can’t get it in my G5 because the heat sink on the graphics card takes up the slot above it.

The 1082 works well with Logic Pro without the FW drive.

I have a Decklink card, Graphics card and Sata card in already.

The only option I can think of is to get all the media off my LACie and on to my Sata Raid and disconnect the LaCie but I’m loathe to do this because I want to keep the Sata Raid only as an online drive (I’m working in DV and Mastering to Digibeta).

    Any thoughts?

All my firmware is up to date and I’m running 10.4.1.

    Thanks for replys, guys.

That is exactly what I’m looking for. My control panel hasn’t got any audio settings.

Am I being dim? Latest Drivers installed.

    thanks for your reply, bob

so basically trust my PPMs, ignore FCP meters and (as I’m mastering to Digibeta) stay away from 0. The show is for discovery and they specify no audio above -10dbVU (digital). So at least with my problem (audio coming out hotter than FCP shows) I won’t be doubling up quiet tracks to get more level.

Have fun at NAB – stay away from the roulette tables.

Surely 0 on digibeta is clip (big no no) I’m in the UK and I assume that 0dbVU is -18db(digital) 4ppm.
Full +4db balanced environment, I would assume that I could adjust the output of my card so that the meters in FCP match the meters on the Digibeta Deck. I know that the PPM’s are calibrated because I’ve used them with a Silver for the last 6 months and (despite the idiosyncrasies of the Silver hardware) they were lined up with the decks.
My neck is on the line a bit because I persuaded the head of facilities at the prod co I’m working at that my FCP rig is the money. This is the sort of thing that he would sneer at (he’s just bought a couple more Avids, Express Pros, to go with his Symphony and Media Composers) so I need to get it all looking like a proper OnLine (lets hope Apple has fixed the XML issues with Logic 7.1) Oh yeah, I have to do my own dubs for this series as well…….and shooting………and graphics………and did I mention I was directing too (what happened to real budgets?)
