Did you ever get this problem solved with the HDV tape which was recorded on a JVC GY HD110?

A new client sent me his HDV tape to convert to DVD, and though my Sony HVR-M15 HDV deck will beautifully play the tape in my 24-inch monitor via A/V out, I can’t get FCP 7.03 to read the video. I understand the JVC GY HD110 format is called ProHD.

My Sony deck shows up in the System Profile, and in the log and capture window, I can control the Sony deck, but when it captures, the timecode moves ahead, but the preview screen is black.

Are there special settings acceptable to FCP 7 so it will capture? I read one blog which said ProHD uses XDCAM.

    Need help.

    Thanks.

Just bought Bitvice today, but as yet unable to get suitable results from a couple of HD 1440×1080 test movies.

In Bitvice, I selected Command+5 from the settings menu, and NTCS 720×480 anamorphic.

After ENCODE, I brought the file into DVD Studio Pro, but results were somewhat jerky on the DVD.

If I can get the settings right, I want to bring in to BITVICE a 120 minute HD 1440×1080 file for conversion to m2v and DVD Studio Pro.

Can someone suggest settings or a screen grab of Bitvice to help me.

    Thanks.

Thanks everyone who responded to this post about identifying reference movie. John, now I just have to re-export as a self contained movie and hope that fixes the error message in DVD Studio Pro:

Searching for movie data sequence 1-FIN-0000077 cannot be found. Without this file the movie cannot play properly.

Until I get the error cleaned up, DVD Studio Pro will not operate. It is in this repeating error loop. Perhaps you guys helped me to save $199 with Apple Professional Apps Support.

  • Well, here we are at Johnson Video Productions in Puyallup, WA, just starting down the HDV path. I ordered a Sony HDR-V1U and started the process of down converting HDV to SD for preparation to export to DVD Studio Pro.

The last three SD DVDs I’ve done using different settings has created an SD DVD that looks terrible. I read with interest the post from Mike who suggested shooting in SD as long as we are outputting to SD.

Did you ever get this work flow problem figured out; what settings to use, codecs, etc?

I would really appreciate hearing from you, even if it’s just a reliable link you’ve found describing the “BEST” process for optimum results.

    With appreciation,

  • Just purchased a Lacie F800 1 TB RAID system for my Mac G5 1.8 Dual with 2.5 GB RAM. I did the required formatting directions out of the LACIE box, and connected it via firewire 800 to the MAC G5. The disk appeared on the desktop – no problems. I captured a few clips using Final Cut Pro 5, but then FCP started to drop frames.

I found this thread, and thought I needed to download Xserve, and RAID Admin 1.5. I can’t, however, get the RAID drive to appear in the RAID Admin. I click Add System + button, but I can’t figure out how to get the RAID Admin to recognize the RAID that is on my desktop so I can follow the rest of the set up directions as described here: https://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302780

Thanks anyone who is able to help.
