I always use Import but I also tried the Media Browser for this one. Same result. However, before I left work last night I hit Import again, and this morning the files were there. I had tried that before but the next day the files were there with no sound. This time there was sound so I can continue editing. I suspect that if I use the Media Browser and wait long enough they will eventually import. It just never took so long before.

Yes, my captions are showing in my timeline. But I don’t get the option that I need. I think the problem is that I am using .srt files and they don’t give me the option of Embed in Output File. What I also don’t understand is what the purpose of a sidecar file is. Is that something I can bring back into Premiere that will allow me to export a closed-caption file?

Thank you for responding. It turns out that I do not need a sidecare file. What I need is the option to Embed in Output File. But I don’t get that option in CC 2017. I only get None or Burn Captions into Video. This occurs whether I chose .mp4 or Quicktime export.

Thanks, Alex. Exporting the captions just give me an xml or another .srt file. It doesn’t give me a movie with closed captioning. My understanding of the sidecar file is that Premiere creates this on export for closed captioning, whether you create the captions yourself or import an .srt or some other type of captioning file. I also posted this question on the Adobe forum and have not received a response. Although I saw another comment from a year ago about the same issue. Very strange that it has disappeared and Adobe doesn’t respond.

I have version 2011. But it’s working. It turns out that the presentation gallery was way off-screen, so it looked like all I had were menus but nothing to open. Then I noticed the edge of something one day and pulled it over. I was the presentation gallery. Once I centered it on my desktop I could open Powerpoint projects. Thanks for getting back to me.

I am using .mp4, but that’s not the problem. The error message occurs as soon as I drag the Add Movie icon to the layout, before I have even dragged the file to the icon. Like I said, the icon won’t even let me change the text to “Play movie” or something like that, which it always lets me do.

Select all of your clips (Command/A). Go to Sequence/Apply Default Transition to Selection. Done.

For some reason Panasonic designed this camera without an auto gain/limiter found on every other camcorder. It is an odd and annoying oversight that prevents this camera from being really great. It’s on every other camera they make; it’s strange that they left if off of this one.
