It would seem I fell victim to a more convoluted and murky version of, “It doesn’t look like that on my monitor and I didn’t shoot it like that.”
The title of this post should be, I let myself be bullied by the DP.

December 11, 2014 at 3:06 am in reply to: Video and Data Levels – Avid Media Composer Workflow IssueRelinking to original camera files (H264) was done in Avid. Media was then consolidated and transcoded to DnxHD 175 10 precisely in the manner described starting on page 383 of the Resolve manual, then AAF import.
I should have known something was up when every single clip of the hour long program came into Resolve perfectly. 😉

The output from Resolve, Media Composer and After Effects are all being viewed on the same external monitor via the blackmagic card. The project settings are set to REC 709 in all programs. The difference is how the media is displaying between the programs not on the GUI monitor with the same media.
I’ve not had this issue before on any projects edited in Avid, Final Cut, Premiere. I’m not familiar enough with the inner workings of Avid to determine reliably where that is occurring. My only guess is Avid has imported/exported the clips with the data levels. Perhaps the media is getting flagged improperly in whatever method Resolve uses to determine the levels.

I second that that lag. Also…
The new issue I’m experiencing is that Resolve loses the panel if I switch to another application, even switching to the Finder or checking my mail on OSx breaks the connection to my panel and will not work again until I restart Resolve. I have uninstalled restarted reinstalled both 2.7 and 3.0 and am currently on 2.7.

April 24, 2013 at 2:54 pm in reply to: How to import Davinci Layout into EuControl?? For Avid MC ColorThe bank and the right shift keys work perfectly, they are just not identified with a description in Eucon. You dont have to hold the shift key and the F keys at the same time. Press either bank or shift key and it will hold until you press another key. Ignore the light on the shift keys. Since resolve was able to ‘hack’ the shift keys to differentiate right and left, the light is meaningless. The panel has all the functionality that Resolve makes available to it and plenty of folks are using it without issue.
That said, I had a bit of trouble with getting it to work properly until I disabled the mac firewall. On my system at least it seems to help to turn the panel on first and wait until the avid logo disappears as it gets an ip address and then start Eucon. Wait until the icon stops spinning and then start resolve. Maybe it’s a bunch of voodoo but it worked for me.
You might want to try a reinstall. Fully uninstall Eucon restart the computer.
And then:1. Install eucon and then restart computer again.
2. open resolve
3. set your control surface to ‘none’ in resolve preferences.
4. exit resolve.
5. restart resolve choose artist color.
6. restart resolve.2008 MacPro 2 x 2.8 Quad Xeon

April 23, 2013 at 7:36 pm in reply to: How to import Davinci Layout into EuControl?? For Avid MC ColorNone of the buttons are labeled like they were in say, Apple Color. I think it’s because resolve’s mapping for third party panels is located somewhere in the program itself. you can compare the differences in the control panel xml files located in the resolve package.
you can type in the labels yourself but eucon doesnt differentiate between left and right shift keys like resolve does. It’s pretty half-assed but least resolve supports it. Hopefully in v10 there will be some ability to customize.

I had the same problem about a year ago but I got the panel working quite well with Resolve. (Using full version not Lite) I’ve had great support from Avid and have never been asked to pay anything for it. While the Eucontrol software for the panel can be a bit finicky at times, I really like the size and feel of the panel.
If you’re running Little snitch, try disabling or adding new rules to little snitch, and see if that helps things. Disable the mac firewall.
If not, try a manual IP setup:
On the mac, open system preferences. Click network. Click the ethernet port that you use to connect the computer to your control surface. You should use ethernet port 1.
In the right hand part of this window, click the pulldown menu next to “configure”. Select “manually”.
Now enter the following in the now empty IP address field: 169.254.1.2
Enter the following in the subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
Hit OK.
Now set the IP address on the control surface by referring to APPENDIX A in the PDF manual for your control surface. The IP address on the control surface should be 169.254.1.3, and the subnet mask should be 255.255.0.0. The IP of the next surface, and any additional surfaces, should increment up by 1 on the last digit, so 19.2.168.1.4, then .5, etc. etc.
When this is all done, restart all the units and the computer, boot the surfaces one by one, letting them connect to eucontrol, and after it does, start the next surface. Now load your host application and see if things are working properly.
I always turn the panel on first and wait a few moments before starting Eucontrol and then start resolve.

Had a similar issue on a 2 hour doc full of mixed frame rate media. Imported Final Cut 7 XML. The 29.97 sequence was interpreted as 23.98 in resolve. I assumed it was simply removing the pulldown so I didn’t alter the sequence. Render to 29.97 was grayed out.
We were pressed for time and rather than chance it with colortrace, I used cinema tools to change the frame rate of the rendered output from resolve.
Everything seems to be fine. Looks good and plays back in sync. Was that a bad idea? Am I unreasonably mistrustful of colortrace?

Curses!
In the timeline menu on the conform page. I forgot that I sized the columns to read the long names. I had to scroll the bar right to see the offline video column. v8 had that fancy and obvious drop down arrow. right clicked in the column and it’s all set. Thanks guys.
