If it’s about burning, Nero is an ultimate, all in one
solution.

I’m using 6.0.0.16 – there’s also a 7.x version out there,
but I’m completely satisfied with my 6… version.

It not just writes DVD video, but all DVD formats, handles
almost all burner correctly (you can have multiple burner, and you can write to them simultaneously), and it’s almost bug free.
I say “almost” because every program has gugs, but using Nero
for years, I’ve never run into a bug.

So, I recommend Nero.

At least give it a try.

This is from Vegas help:

Choose a setting from this drop-down list to determine the method used to render effects and deinterlace the two fields that make up a frame.

None
Performs no deinterlacing.

Blend fields
Uses contents from both fields and works well for high-detail, low-motion video.

Interpolate
Uses a single field at a time and works well for high-motion, low-detail video.

No deinterlacing occurs in the Draft and Preview video preview modes. The Good and Best modes apply the selected deinterlacing method.————

So this setting tells Vegas how to deinterlace when it’s necessary.
Deinterlace is only necessery, when your image needs to be converted
to progressive:
in general when your image size differs from the original, so
-some transitions (zoom, 3d trans.)
-when doing pan-crop

But when you deinterlace, you’ll lose motion information!
Don’t worry, Vegas does not deinterlace unless it is necessary.

I use the PAL DV (720*576 25 fps) template, and “blend fields”
as deinterlace method.
I didn’t see any big difference in quality between the two deinterlace method. So I decided to use blend fields becasue it uses
both fields, so I guess I loose less image detail…

Don’t worry, the worst thing you can do is mess up field order.
But if you do this, the resulting video will look jerky, containing eye-hurting movement.

I also use PAL DV template with “blend fields” as deinterlace option. That works OK for me.

Which deinterlace method is set up in the project properties?
I bet “None”.

Choose “Blend fields” or “Interpolate” (which gives better result).

Guess you’re trying to captore using some directx based app?

If yes, try to reinstall directx, all the codecs you want to use, and the capture app.

Never mind, I got it.

Just placed the clip in a separate track,
a child track, the parent track (multiply/mask) is solid white,
and I mask this white track with my presets,
so I can pan/crop the child track and the mask
stays in place…

Hurray.

I knew it’s possible, just had to type to get the idea…

That should be a frame of the main video.
It’s not one color :((

I was about starting to archive my own VHS records, those time
only to SVCD. I quikcly realised, that there are parts of the videos which need enhacment, or need to be cut out, etc, so I looked around.

I tried bundled software ulead video studio, but I wasn’t very happy with it.
Then I looked around, and based on recommendations, tried ulead mediastudio pro 5.0, adobe premiere 5.0 (I didn’t buy these I got installs for free, just for testing).
Mediastudio pro would be my decision if I would not meet sonic foundry vegas video 3.0.

Vegas was so intuitive, and easy to use yet powerful, after couple of hours I was able to do the things I could after few days with media studio pro.
Since that I don’t want to use anything else for video editing.

I still have to learn vegas (and I do learn it:)), I don’t know all of it’s features, but as I use it, I get every day more familiar with it.

Now I’m using Vegas 5.0b.
I recommend you to try Vegas, read the help files, and the user manual – you will find it a great program, especially if you already tried others.
