Ya that is what I did. It has worked fine for every other project I have done but to all of the sudden have many errors in 1 4-gig transfer was weird. I guess I will have to transfer the footage over before import into FCP.

Well I transfered to the Power Book threw the PCMCIA slot and then through firewire to the G5 tower as a test. that is odd that the power bood did that because it has had no problems on 20 or so projects with about 2 to 3 transfers to the computer per project. This was the first time and it showed up a number of times on that transfer but never before that on any other project.
It’s good to know that it’s not the camera but I was wondering if my hard drive was going bad and blocks were not writing right. The laptop is almost 4 years old now. Might be time for a new drive.

I had a hard time thinking that it could be the camera. I did a second transfer from the camera to a new computer and the artifacts were not there.
So the problem is with the laptop. What can cause that to happen? bad blocks on the hard drive or the transfer from the PCMCIA card threw that slot?
Any thoughts because I’m stumped?

I can’t believe that thing needs serviceing already. My Sony PD-100a over the last 5 years has made wakboarding videos, been dropped, over seas and through hell and high water with no need for service after 5 years.
And now the HVX-200 needs service after shooting 20 Gift stores and Restaurants sitting in a tri-pod and recording to a P2 card so no moving parts. I find that hard to believe, But possible : )
This has to be a warrenty repair if it is a repair. Anyone now of a good repair place in Santa Barbara California?

As far as I know it is not possible for this to happen writing to a 4 gig p2. I find it hard to belive that my camera needs service after only 20 gentle shoots.

Ya it was the weirdest thing. I had 8 drop outs in in the 8 minutes of video that I shot at 480i 60 /DVCPRO 50.
I have never had that ever happen in the last 20 or so shoots I have had the camera. I’m super careful and don’t throw that camera around when I shoot with it, and keep it in a safe case.

Well I am not the total expert here but if you shot 24p then the camera does a 3:2 pulldown to convert it 29.97 on the fly. this will cause an interlaced looking frame every few frames or so. If you wanted a true 24 FPS then you should have shot it at 24pn. From my understanding it flags only the 24 frames per second and skips the 3:2 pull down.

I’ll toss my 2 cents in.
1. Delete last clip button!!!!! (Not in the menu but a button on the camera)
2. View the last clip button. The camera has something like that but it is only a few seconds of the last one.
3. PUT A QUICKTIME DOWNLOADABLE CODEC ON YOUR WEBSITE FOR MAC AND PC!!!!!! So people who don’t have FCP can still work with the footage and view it. Just make it a readable codec and not writable if you are worried about people using that codec to write too, but viewing the footage it COME ON!That is what I would like to see above and beyond what other people have talked about.

Tod, I upgraded my version of Toast from 6 to 7. 7 has a cool feature that allows you to drag a folder like I just had that was around 25 gigs of video clips into toast. Then then just click the burn button and it says “It will take about 6 disc to back this up” that’s it! When it finishes write / verify it spits out disc 1 and asks for a new blank disc. I buy my discs on line at SUPERMEDIASTORE.COM. Its a good brand I go with with almost no fail rate for about .32 cents per disc.
As for the files them selfs I take a different approch. Even though everyone has said MXF’s are you masters the Quicktimes are the same quality as the MXF’s. They have said there can be problems with the QT’s and should hang on to the MXF’s. But I don’t want twice as much data on discs or hard drives.
That’s just the way I view it even though people say it’s not the right way. I have had the camera a few months now and on about 30 shoots and the work flow has been great.

Someone else may answer this better then me. But if you shot in 24p not pn then you are supposed to have the 1080i60 setting in your settings. The camera is doing the 3:2 pull down and to fit it into a 60 frame stream. If you want a true 24p then you need to shoot 24PN. that will give you only the 24 framers per second. The way you shot it gove it the feel of 24p with in the 60 frame stream.
So what you see is right with the interlacing.
I hope I got that right.
