Saving the attic files to disk is one more drag on performance. You got the SSD for speed. Saving attic files there is one more way it speeds things up.

When we read about Apple’s using Color Sync to control the calibration of color on computer monitors, one wonders if they plan to rely solely on this for their promise of broadcast monitoring in the next update. Is it paranoid to think they might not support third-party PCIe cards?’
Does this TB to PCIe driver development by AJA give us some assurance that the early 2012 update to FCPX will include support of third-party cards like the Kona 3?

Reading some more and I see that the name of folder to move in and out of may be Final Cut Pro Projects, but we’ll get that cleared up in time.
There are plenty of reasons FCP media management needed improvement. For one: change the media folder location and everything became unlinked.

I haven’t got my hands on FCPX yet but could a professional editor with lots of clients and projects get along with the FCPX paradigm in this way?:
On an external RAID you have a folder for each client and within each of those a folder for each job. Whichever job your working on at the time you move (at the finder level) that folder into the Events folder at the top level of the RAID. FCPX will only see that job’s media (Events)* and sequences (Projects) because it only sees what’s in that folder. As you work you create as many Projects (sequences) as you need for different shows and different versions. It’s your choice whether to remove a job folder from the Events folder either every time you change the job you’re working on or when that job is totally done. When you do, FCPX is blinded from seeing that material.
*FCPX term capitalized.

Oh, also the DVW-A500 will play a BetaSP tape with 3&4 audio.
Probably all the J series, BetaCam SX and Betacam IMX decks do also.

No a PVW-2800 does not have the 4 channel feature.
The BVW-75 does, as does the BVW-70, BVW-65 and BVW-60.

I ordered an AJA IO Express from my dealer 3-1/2 weeks ago.
I hope the 2 to 4 week time frame has some truth to it.
I’ll post back when I get it.

I know that I “shouldn’t” but . . .
I’ve been using MC and FCP on the same partition for about three years. In fact plenty of times I’ve run both programs simultaneously in order to check or pull info from earlier sequences. No problem. I even did a test and was able to play an SD sequence on MC out through the Mojo SDI, then into the Kona 3 SDI input, upconvert it to 1080 and capture it as ProRes with FCP. Not a hickup.
Admittedly I have sometimes kept running an older OS/QT in order to keep within or at least close to what Avid supports.
Of course YMMV. I’d say that if you yourself don’t have the ability to back-out of this setup by un-installing one program and creating a dual boot disk, then you should not do this in the first place.
