that allows you to switch between devices. In FCP, you just use the easy setup

You should consider making this box dual boot. Boot into Avid or boot into FCP.
There is a time when all will be well with the same QT and OS then there won’t.
FCP usually will accept updates before Avid, though in some cases updates will break it as well.

Agreed. Don’t run Avid and Fcp in same boot drive.

That being said, you can have more than one AJA device installed on the FCP partition and be totally fine.

I know that I “shouldn’t” but . . .

I’ve been using MC and FCP on the same partition for about three years. In fact plenty of times I’ve run both programs simultaneously in order to check or pull info from earlier sequences. No problem. I even did a test and was able to play an SD sequence on MC out through the Mojo SDI, then into the Kona 3 SDI input, upconvert it to 1080 and capture it as ProRes with FCP. Not a hickup.

Admittedly I have sometimes kept running an older OS/QT in order to keep within or at least close to what Avid supports.

Of course YMMV. I’d say that if you yourself don’t have the ability to back-out of this setup by un-installing one program and creating a dual boot disk, then you should not do this in the first place.
