Thanks for the suggestion. When I have combined encoded segments of a finished program on one DVD Studio Pro track, I’ve done it at dips to black not thinking I could get frame accurate results. Now I will try it a cut points. It would be very handy for dealing with last minute revisions.
Any further tips on doing that? Such as, does one mark out on the same frame as the next segment’s mark in? Any problems with audio continuity from segment to segment? Can you drop a corrected segment of video into a larger segment of audio and video (the equivalent of a video only insert)?
Finally I’m wondering, since DVD Studio Pro can’t author Bluray does that mean we’d need a different app’s timeline to combine mp4 segments into one track before burning to Bluray?

I found myself needing that Deselect All function so frequently, such as before trimming, that I assigned it to the “C” key. I think of it a “Clear” and before I do anything I hit C and clear the previous selection.
It takes the place of the Crop function which I’m OK using from the tool Palatte.

While most of CS4 including AE requires Intel, Photoshop CS4 runs on a G5. No trick needed. Right there in Adobe’s requirements.

You can remap the multiple keystroke shortcuts the same way you do a single one. Open Customize Keyboard Layout (option-h), click on the unlock icon, type in part of the name of the function, such as “ripple,” then drag the Ripple Tool icon to the desired key.

I agree with everyone above that a TBC built into a VTR can only correct the timebase of the tape playing in that VTR. A standalone TBC that is a full frame sync is what you need.
One of the easiest ways to put your hands on one is to borrow or buy a consumer DVD recorder. Just power it on, feed your VHS into an input and feed the perfectly TBC’d component output to your capture card.
After using all kinds of expensive TBCs in my linear editing day I was amazed by the quality of the video processing of the signal passing through the both the Panasonic or Pioneer DVD recorders (others may be equally good). This is possible because chips doing the work are now of course low cost, very high quality commodities.
As noted, this will introduce just one frame of delay in the video, which by itself may be no problem, but if combined with more frames of delay may need compensation.

An EDL will certainly lose the multiclip info but it’s very primitive having only 1 video track and only 6 characters for reel names, etc.
If XML can be counted on to lose the multiclip info than it would be a better way to carry forward the info of the sequence.

It sure seems like MM is at fault because Ken’s original description was so thorough and the follow-up seems to have disproved any operator error.
If your still looking for a workaround, you would want to somehow discard all the multiclip info which MM can’t seem to do. How about exporting your video only sequence as an EDL then bring it back in to a new project, Media Manage it, and recapture the clips?

The HD Connect-MI converts to HD-SDI video from a decks HDMI output, not firewire. And it is very good.
It uses firewire only for machine control and TC.
