Hey I was as angry as you Aindreas – I was at the Apple NAB event and then felt betrayed once FCPX was released – it was total garbage to me and my colleagues. Like most FCP7 users I was wondering what I would do next – I’ve been a Vegas beta tester for over 10 years but the latest version is so buggy it’s unusable. I did several rounds as a PPro tester and gave up after they refused to listen to even the most basic feature requests. I was hopeful for MC6 but again a total dud – Avid did nothing to improve audio performance and track count and I hate cutting in it. In the meantime 10.01 came out, hmmm…. I didn’t really give it a thought. Then 10.02 came out so I stuck a new 5770 card in my old Mac Pro and gave it a chance. I have been pleasantly surprised and actually beginning to see the light here – I actually like FCPX! Does it need add’l features – of course but I can see the future and I think this thing is gonna be okay. I’m actually having fun and excited to edit each day (I’ve been cutting since 1986)

Yeah I agree – i’ve cut on Avid for pay and used every version they’re had over the last decade but would take FCP7 any day over MC including MC6. Yeah Avid has great shared storage but the NLE blows chunks – I truly hate editing on it and I’m sure there’s gonna be a lot of frustration on some of the 100 seats at Bunim. Sure they’ll all adjust because they have to pay rent and buy groceries but it’s not a fun NLE to work on.
Truth is I think everyone on here is wrong, FCPX will win in the end if Apple pays attention to it and ads a few simple features we’d all like to have. But even as it sits, I prefer it to MC6, PPro 5.5 and Vegas 11. It’s just works, its sexy, it’s fun and it’s fast. Color tools blow away anything on the aforementioned NLE’s and some of the plug-ins coming out like Yanobox MOODS are so fun and futuristic I feel like I’m opening OS9 every time I open another NLE. Even working with audio is better and more “pro” than any NLE I used including Vegas.

Sorry I haven’t experienced ANY serious bugs since updating my system to Lion, I’m even running several 3rd party FCPX plugs and still no probs… just lucky I guess…
I’m on a 2.1 MacPro with new 5770 installed feeding Dell 30″ and HP Dreamcolor.

So Adobe has released 2 bug fixes since the release of PPro 5.5 in APRIL. 5.5.1 on Sept. 12th and 5.5.2 on Nov. 1st.
Apple has released 2 FCPX bug fixes since being released in JUNE. 10.01 around Sept.20th, which also included new and improved features and 10.02 on Nov. 16th. They also updated the codec pack in Oct. Seems Apple is doing okay with updates… we’ll see how big the next one is.
As far as current bugginess, I have not been able to crash 10.02 on Lion yet.

So you have a special card – take out the nVidia and plop in an ATI card… Seriously PPro runs amazing on a good card, I’ve tested the GTX570 and wow! But I’m not talking about stacking tracks – the top track is all that matters, my point was that I had a bunch of real world stuff on a clip and it ran faster/smoother than any NLE I’ve tried that cost under $300…

How about 5 stacked Color Corrections including 2 masks and topped off with a mild Sharpen filter – all with no choking on 1080p footage – similar to Mercury playback in PPro but no special card required! And the results are just crazy good – as good and faster than using Color, which I loved.

Good for you! The more I play with the latest rev of FCPX the more I’m convinced it’s gonna win the NLE war in 2012… it truly is epically fast and just plain fun to work with. I hated it for so long and now have a hard time even looking at older NLE’s lol.

You can click the brightness or contrast control and it will flash, then hold down the Control key and use the left/right arrows to adjust in tiny increments.

Maybe a change is in order… I know I was firmly in the NOT camp and not happy with Apple at all. But… since the .01 and .02 updates and the ability to add transitions to any clip (what a concept) I’m slowly changing sides and thinking maybe Apple has something here…this is by far the fastest NLE out there and I find it harder and harder to go back to an “old school” NLE like FCP7, MC6 or CS5.5…
Ny guess is that long term Apple wins again.

Simply not true! I know plenty of VERY high end feature film Editors who make HUGE money and are completely technically ignorant! And they want to stay that way! The moment a computer locks up, crashes whatever, they step away and let the techs fix it – they don’t get paid to be a technician or because they know all the in and outs of every NLE, they get paid because they are creative storytellers.
