Talk about a fire sale – $17 million for two divisions? Avid paid over $150 million for M-Audio back in 2004…yikes!

They just showed a bullet point graphic and talked about it – no details but the crowd did cheer when they mentioned adding 2nd viewer.

I was a little disappointed in the Apple presentation as far as “new” features etc. It was a nice recap of the past year and all the updates but the new bullet list is the same on we all knew about. It was a tough crowd though many seemed to come around a bit in the end.

The better presentation was Steve Martin’s project sharing tips including fast web sharing (assuming the person on the other end has all the media etc.) and how to use Disk Utility and spare disk images to share entire projects – very cool.

Best of all I won (the famous raffle) a copy of CrumplePop’s ColorKit Suite which I can’t wait to try!

Yeah the fade slider is nice in FCP. A quick trick in Vegas is to just put a dupe clip with Look on it above same clip with no effect and adjust opacity to your liking.

  • If you are talking about exporting multiple files – you can go to Tools – Scripting – Batch Render – for multiple clips. Just set up a region around each clip you need and make certain you have a custom render setting (if needed) set up before going into the batch render. You’ll see a checkbox for Render Regions.

  • I assume your project is correctly set to Upper Field first? Try turning off resampling on all clips. Which encoder are you using? I think the MPEG-2 DVD settings will encode bottom first…

Well I was willing to get a 3rd party keyboard for the iPad for writing but it’s the apps that are bad, not the iPad. This is the disadvantage of iOS vs. OSX – Final Draft for instance has no version for iOS – but they have Windows and OSX versions which means the Surface Pro will be the first real usable tablet for writers! Oh and Editors 🙂

I definitely want the Pro version – since it runs the full version of Windows 8 and has a keyboard I will be able to use it to write – something that is a painful experience on the iPad. I bought the 64GB iPad3 and while I loved the retina display the 5 or 6 screenwriting apps that are available are all terrible. Sadly I took it back and got a Toshiba Ultrabook and loaded up Final Draft 8. Now I’ll get the best features of an unltrabook and a tablet powered by an i5 CPU! This means I could load up Sony Vegas or Premiere Pro and even do some editing!
