I just purchased the Magic Bullet Looks plugin for Vegas and noticed in some of their “how-to” videos using other host applications that there was a “mix” slider available to fade the strength of the filter on the video. I assume that was a native control in the editing software and not part of the Magic Bullet plugin… Is there any such thing in Vegas? Any way to vary the total strength of a video filter applied to an event or track in Vegas? I can’t seem to find any way to vary the strength of the effect without going into the filter controls and dialing individual parameters down. The Magic Bullet Looks plugin has a wide variety of presets and I would like to be able to use them, but just dial back the total effect without having to adjust each sub-setting…

[John Sieber] ” Is there any such thing in Vegas? Any way to vary the total strength of a video filter applied to an event or track in Vegas?”

There is nothing that will automatically reduce the overall affects of a filter unless the filter itself provides this.

What you have to do is enable Automation and then keyframe the filter. Hopefully there will be some parameter that controls the “amount” and you can automate the keyframes from whatever it is down to zero over time. This will vary for each filter.

Crud. Well, hopefully it gets added in a future update to Vegas. It seems like a very useful tool that the other editing packages have (or at least FCP which was being used I believe).

Yeah the fade slider is nice in FCP. A quick trick in Vegas is to just put a dupe clip with Look on it above same clip with no effect and adjust opacity to your liking.
