I’ve also noticed the majority of the pro photographers around the world posting to Vimeo etc – I’m talking high-end photos now dabbling in video via DSLRs are cutting in FCPX.

This will probably be one of the most watched camera tests on the Planet today – also cut in FCPX:

I have a non-touch Toshiba ultrabook now and love it – zero problems. One of the Adobe Product Managers at NAB has the same model as mine – loves it and is running Premiere on it and cutting HD…

I’ve had lemons from all the major brands including Apple and HP – sucked…

Thanks for the correction – and I meant NLE wars (typo)

They did mention at NAB they are looking at other ways to pay for full version such as one time lifetime pay etc.

  • That’s another good question – I’m on monthly service so I understand the suite will timeout after a month because that’s all I paid for – but what if I paid for a year in advance and lose my internet connection or purposely keep a machine off the internet? The suite should stay active for as long as I paid for right?

Whoa… none of this fair and balanced posting – you gotta take a stand either for or against an NLE here in this forum (usually against FCPX lol)!

Kidding… well put. Hey and for another $69 you can add Lightworks – which may emerge as the real winner in the LE wars in the near future…

I agree – beyond the new Start Screen touch gets less useful – I’ve been spending most of my days lately living in Photoshop and can’t imagine using my fingertip for critical work. I still think it’s a bitchen ultrabook and I want one… now!

The new Windows 8 Start Screen is wasted without touch – it’s very elegant and much more customizable and useful than an iOS or Droid interface. Touch aside, I just thought it was funny after months of rumors of a retina display on the Macbook Air, someone else actually did it first and in a pretty sweet package – which is available without touchscreen by the way.

April 17, 2013 at 5:09 pm in reply to: BMD 4K Extreme or Aja Kona 3G?-Suggestions

This is true and a constant question in the AJA booth at NAB last week. Smart move by Grant to giveaway Resolve knowing he’s gonna sell a lot of hardware – heck I bought the Ultrastudio Mini just for Resolve!

The good news is all the AJA products will support Adobe Speedgrade when the new suite is available. Though I was never a Speedgrade fan, after spending a few days with it in the booth with Kona 3G, Tangent Element controller and Lookabs looks I’ve become a big fan – it’s fast and much easier to use than Resolve once you know the workflow – not saying it’s better – just surprised how good the new version is.

With AJA you get lifetime “live” FREE support – meaning you can call during support hours and actually talk to someone. I don’t know any other company that does this.

I also feel that AJA software is easier to set-up and use and just works. BMD software always a little confusing and harder to get hardware working with various apps like Premiere.

Also AJA product line is focused i/o only and they’ve been the gold standard for a long time now. 4K on the Kona 3G works rock solid today.

Good advice – get the trial and play around but otherwise I’d wait to start your membership when the new version is available. There are some significant changes that will have to be learned in the new suite.

The only reason to upgrade sooner would be to take advantage of the $29 mo. upgrade special – not sure of the cut-off. Obviously if you have an upcoming gig and want to try out CS6 go for it…
