If you’re an AJA user you can check with your dealer for AJA Party pass on Tuesday night. This is by far the biggest and best party at NAB every year, though it can be tough to get in.
Also check the NAB websites – their are official after partys every night at a different club.

I have a Drobo 5D – it’s very quiet and reliable but not the speed I was hoping for. It’s strength is the raid system they employ and I think would be a waste of money as a JBOD.
I have 3 different Sans Digital boxes – one is a 5 drive with hardware Raid 5 and really solid for under $300. The other two are set up as JBOD’s and cost around 200 each. They have eSATA and USB3 – no Thunderbolt.

Concur. I don’t like the subscription-only model either, but because they’ve improved CC (PPro 7) so much over 6 (which I did not like or use) I can tolerate the monthly rental and chalk it up to cost of doing business… for now.

Nice to hear that, even with your highly publicized distain for Adobe’s subscription only model, that you’re open-minded enough to try the software. I agree that CC is really nice, not perfect by any means, but I’ve used it on every paid gig I’ve had since last June release and find it to be the current NLE champ by far.

However, to match the sexiness of the new Mac Pro I’d go with dual Samsungs – by far the best looking monitor out there right now and would look fantastic with the new Mac.

Editing will be the same on either platform – once your in the app there’s no functional advantage from one to the other. Depends too on your hardware budget – you can build a very fast all SSD PC for far less than buying ew Mac Pro’s but like others have said if your workflow involves Pro Res I’d stick with the Mac. PC will read and edit Pro Res fine but you can’t output a Pro Res file. Cineform and DNxHD are both great on the PC.

Me too – though I do like Thunderbolt and wish there was a PCI card for my “old” Mac Pro.
