Nice to know about the iMac. I’m currently on a similar 2009 Mac Pro 8 core with SSD and 7950. It’s just okay. Can’t wait to try out the iMac.

Yeah having used both extensively for quite a while I prefer FCPX to CC in almost every way. But if you’re a heavy Photoshop and AE user then you already have Premiere so you’re probably good to go.

October 24, 2014 at 3:34 am in reply to: FCP/ Avid/ Premier for doc post producion houses?Yeah the feature has been there for quite a while but I could not get it to work in latest version. I used to have no issues sending .aaf’s back and forth between Vegas and Premiere/Avid but can’t get any of it to work anymore. There’s been a new Vegas team in Madison for a few revs now, very nice folks but they just keep making Vegas buggier and buggier. Sad as it was my favorite NLE for over 10 years…

That’s my thought – 4Ghz quad i7 with 4GB gpu is pretty nice and there is no 5K or retina option with the MacPro. Now if they release a 5K Cinema display that could sway back toward Mac Pro. Not saying I need 5K by the way, I don’t even have 4K yet and love my dual LG 27’s.

Yeah I was waiting for that too – would be incredible to have them side by side. Wondering if the maxed out iMac will be all one needs for editing – meaning do I need a new Mac Pro?

Just had this happen to me this week too (not the first time either). Plus I was stuck in beachball-hell – X would come back briefly then beach ball again and background tasks. I had a very simple timeline open and it was very frustrating. Restarted a couple of times and finally back to normal but I do hope this is fixed on next rev.

Not sure if Avid will make any significant gains, great that they now have modern resolutions but it’s basically still the 25 year old MC interface. Great for old guys (like me) but…
CC will probably keep growing because folks still need Photoshop and AE.
I think FCPX will grow faster that folks think. If you’re a Mac user there’s just so many helpful features that are OXS based that speed up workflow – like organizing my massive sound fx library into iTunes and having instant access to tens of thousands of sounds without ever importing or leaving the app.
Plus FCPX makes me feel young again – like the Viagra of NLE’s…
