I have the HF10 and it’s great but the HF S10 is just in another league – got for the HF S10!

Yeah uncompressed or animation codec are great but very big – we use pjpeg here on our series because the quality vs. size issue.
You can batch your uncompressed files into Pro RES files on the Mac using Compressor. These will be smaller and easier to work with then render back into a PC friendly format when you’re done.

I would avoid the whole .mxf thing. Render your shots out of Vegas at the native size of your camera original or project settings to Quicktimes using Photojpeg setting with the slider set at 100%.
These will work great on the Mac. Render them out of the Mac the same way (.pjpeg at 100%) and just cut them into your Vegas timeline. You should see no quality hit.

I think the LH cards are the only ones approved – I have used the LHe with Vegas 8 and it works well.

I have a 42″ AQUOS in my edit bay at work along with a 24″ Sony LUMA with HD-SDI and a SDI CRT – all output via Kona 3 – the AQUOS 64 series lacks in the subtle yellows and reds and cannot be trusted for pro work – the new 94 Special Edition series uses the latest 10 bit panels and may be okay for pro work but must calibrated and compared to high end monitors. Consumer Plasmas seem to be better across the entire color spectrum than consumer LCD’s.
I do believe you can use certain high-end consumer monitors for pro work because that’s really as good as anyone is ever going to see it – you just have to choose the monitor carefully and know how to set it up.

You’ll always have to render the broadcast filter 1st. Are you rendering during Edit to Tape?
Make sure you render 1st – save – so you don’t lose your render for future – then go into edit to tape.

I believe these prices include MC software but no CPU etc. and they must run on a approved Mac or PC with available PCIe slot – no more firewire.
They can run on a laptop via PCIe adapter card.
My point about the age of the crowd – avg. age around 50 – the younger FCP/other NLE crowd isn’t going to be wooed by these new set-ups. The HD Mojo should be in the 5 grand range with software to compete with Kona/FCP.

It is not the new box that is running all these add’l streams – it is Avid’s re-writing of their software to take full advantage of the latest CPU’s and nVidia graphics cards.
So it is a combo of all 3 on a new “approved” machine that will give you the huge leap in performance.
It all looked pretty cool – we’ll see when they ship in June.
