You could try motion tracking the shape, and creating a null object to hold the tracking data, then parent the end of the beam to the tracking data 🙂
It may be a tedious method but it should work none-the-less

  • If you haven’t already fixed this, try precomposing EVERYTHING and mving all attributes, then in the newly created composition, select the precomp layer and go to Layer>Time>Enable time remapping.
Then, create a keyframe on the Time Remap property that appears, but create the keyframe where you want the “slow down” to start. Then create another keyframe where you want the project to speed back up, and drag that keyframe to the right.
You may have to lengthen the composition and expand the layer to the end and drag the right-most keyframe on the time remap to the end as well.

Hope this is useful for you 🙂

April 2, 2012 at 10:08 pm in reply to: Parent Position to a Mask Path?

Here’s how I think you should be able to do it (If you still haven’t)
Find the layer that you want to parent to the mask and press p to open up the position
Find the layer with the original mask and press m to open up the mask properties
Hold alt and click the position stopwatch to bring up some more options
Click and hold the swirly icon (pick-whip), and drag your cursor over the Mask Path on the other layer and release the mouse button. Hopefully that should parent the two together perfectly 🙂
    Hope that helps

Have you tried using the Pan Behind tool? It’s usually the tool you want for moving anchor points. It should be the 6th button on your top toolbar
    Hope that helps 🙂

Thankyou Dan, your advice worked like a treat 🙂
I had to create a shape layer which filled the composition, added the corner pin effect and pick-whipped the lower left corner to the upper left one to turn it into a triangle then from there on I can pick-whip the other corners to my position trackers :p
Thankyou very much for the advice
