  • Parent Position to a Mask Path?

Posted by Josh Pigford on March 21, 2012 at 8:44 pm

I’m trying to have a layer follow a mask path. Right now, to do that, I create the mask, and then copy the mask data to the “Position” property of the layer and that make it appear that the layer is moving along the same path as the mask.

The problem comes when I need to tweak the original mask.

Is there a way to parent the Position property to the Mask property of another layer?

Here’s how I think you should be able to do it (If you still haven’t)
Find the layer that you want to parent to the mask and press p to open up the position
Find the layer with the original mask and press m to open up the mask properties
Hold alt and click the position stopwatch to bring up some more options
Click and hold the swirly icon (pick-whip), and drag your cursor over the Mask Path on the other layer and release the mouse button. Hopefully that should parent the two together perfectly 🙂
    Hope that helps
