I’m also having this problem. I’ve tried exporting the bits I want to do smoothcam on then reimporting but then those clips lose their render files as well.

I’ve tried putting Smoothcam first in the filter chain and last in the filter chain, doesn’t seem to make any difference. Can’t work out any pattern to it all.

I can render a sequence, save, export a QT for use in idvd, quit FCP and then have idvd tell me the sequence has lost it’s render file.

The file actually seems to vanish, it doesn’t go to the trash and it’s not in the render folder.

I’m so angry, it’s added of hours of time to my project and it’s still pot-luck regarding if when I’ll actually be able to finish it.

  • I am also having this problem. I’ve narrowed it down to the reference file relationship but can’t work out why it’s happening on some not others.

After doing some reading on the net, I saw it suggested to output clips as ref. QTs then reimport to prevent the huge analysis times of smoothcam, so I have these things all through out my project.

It’s driving me nuts as the render time on these sequences is on the big side – min 40 minutes – so re-rendering all the time is really slowing me down.

I was also finding that FCP was just randomly losing render files all the time anyway and I found that outputting ref QTs then nesting them into new sequences, along with other footage) seemed to solve that problem. For a while.

Well, the re-render of my sub-comp sequence is done, am going to nest it directly into it’s intended sequence rather than doing ref QTs and see how that goes.

Thanks! Sounds like transitions are always the last thing to apply. And it’s better to stabilize before grading as well?

I’ve just read somewhere that smoothcam has to be applied first while MB stabilizer has to be applied last and I can’t seem to find any information re: lock & load X so my head is exploding.
