  • What are your delivery requirements. It’s sounds like you are in over your head as far as setting up your project settings and editing a project with multiple formats.

If you have time, pull up the manual and read up on how to set up a project. I see all the time where people get into trouble by not setting up their projects correctly and then blame the software for their problems.

    good luck

  • Unless you are referring to SD there is no “standard format” Your editing base will be what you set in your sequence settings.

FCP does a fairly good job of scaling in the timeline without having to render as long as you have have the codecs installed. Are you using clipbrowser to transcode your XDCamEX footage?

I would throw out the notion of trying to edit a multiclip sequence for this project since you will have 3 different timecodes.

Do all of your masters have audio on them? including the 7D? If so, once you have have all your footage normalized you could sync in the timeline with pluraleyes.

I second Shane’s comment. Speed up your workflow by placing the elements in the timeline first, then add motion and FX once your timeline is roughed out.

I see Panasonic releasing the AF100 as soon as they can because their guess is as good as anybody’s to when RED with release the Scarlet. I think this camera is within the same price corridor as the Scarlet and Panasonic would like to take advantage of RED’s timing.

The AF100 looks like a great addition to any production package and if you are sold on not waiting for the Scarlet or need more video functionality than what the DSLR affords, it is probably a good buy. When it ships.

The point that should be made to all the Gen “y” or younger, heck, forget about generations. The point to be made for anybody who started reading this thread for Nick’s shocking title and for anyone who is concerned with the phenomenon of the thread’s subject matter is “Listen to Bob.” By having the integrity to show up when you say you will goes miles. And then, do good work by following the example of how hard your employer or clients (for you freelancers) are working.

In this business and many others, we all know that getting work is not really about what you can do, but who your connected to though your friends or professional networks. But, keeping work once you have it is directly related to “what you can do, and HOW you do it.”

We all choose our attitudes, and that carries over into our work environments.

As a parent and employer of some Gen “Y’s,” It is true that I see the entitlement, the lazy-ness, the disrespect ect. more often than I see integrity and strong work ethics, however, it makes the individuals who posses the qualities we are all expecting good kids to have, stand out from the crowd.

This forum is ripe with years of knowledge on all aspects of the FCP to DVD workflow. Use the search function first, in the top right, when you have specific questions.

I agree with Michael, try it at 1920×1080 first (full frame HD) before you try scaling. I don’t use FCE but I think you will be crippling your workflow by adding unnecessary time in the transcoding process and a loss of quality using the AIC instead of transcoding to one of the advanced codecs.

We use Harvest to track everything but scheduling. For that we use Google calendar.

    https://www.getharvest.com/

It is somewhat simple but allows widget and phone integration.
