September 30, 2008 at 3:46 pm in reply to: P2 footage transferring in FCP as slow motion! Help!I figured out the problem. I needed to take off the ‘remove pulldown’ option in the preferences. That way I keep it natively 50fps.

Is there a way to tell what field dominance it is, if it’s field 1 only, field 2 only or F1-F2, F2-F1. Or will it just take trial and error to see what looks good?
Does it even matter to get it just right, when I’m only delivering an EDL for online?Krisi

Our client wants the master program final output to go back to HDCAM 1080p 23.98. So, after all this, we’ve decided to request the film transfer house to create a digital clone from the HDCAM tapes to DVCAM. Then I will do the offline in SD –do a pulldown to 23.98 fps–and then online it at a facility that has HDCAM capabilities. Do you, or anyone have recommendations of what software would be best to pulldown the DVCAM 29.97 to 23.98? Will Cinema Tools be sufficient? Are there any loop holes I might be missing with this plan of action?

Okay, so let’s say I go HDCAM SDI through the black magic card, captured at the DVCPRO HD codec….and then when it’s all finished and time to put the master back to tape, I’d have to put it out to the Panasonic 1400 FW/SDI deck right? Is that the best output to tape I can do? I won’t be able to go back to the HDCAM deck since it’s not uncompressed right? I just want to be clear on all this.
Thanks,

Sorry, I forgot to mention…the reason I ask about Uncompressed vs. DVCPRO HD–is because my client is shooting on 35mm and is asking me if they should transfer to HDCAM 1080p or to the Panasonic DVCPro HD 1080p. So, I’m trying to figure out what would be best for our budget, while still acheiving the quality and longevity he hopes for.
Thanks,

Is there a visual difference between uncompressed HD and DVCPRO HD? And if my client is concerned about the longevity (format wise) of this piece, will it make a big difference if I choose DVCPro HD over uncompressed?
Thanks for your input.

January 12, 2006 at 8:52 pm in reply to: digital breakup never in the same place twiceThank you for your ideas and suggestions. Our bnc cables are top quality. My drive is pretty full, however I haven’t seen that problem on the other projects on the same drive–but they are much shorter programs.
So would the solution be to get SATA drives instead of firewire? Well, I’ll do some more experimenting.
Thanks for your help.

Thanks Jeremy, I did actually previously change the protocol to panasonic–and it didn’t do anything. I called AJA support, found out I had to download a .txt file and put it in my plugin folder which reverted the protocol to version 4.5. Things worked smoothly after that. Support told me I would only have to remove it out whenever I use Sony protocol, and then move it back in for Panasonic. A pain, but at least it solves the panasonic RS-422 bug. Thanks.
