Thanks – with extract matte and a bit of adjusting the key by hand it worked out quite well. 🙂

    Hey,

Thanks for your Replies. Did not have the chance to check it the past few months. I’ll check the EDL writer and Michael, no worries about the audio – first thing is to get the video right – most of the audio is going to be rebuild either way.

    Thanks and best

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for your help and quick response.
    As I wrote:
We did not edit with the original source. I’ll try to show our workflow:
    – The client is editing his feature in Avid or another NLE
    – He’ll export watermarked quicktimes(reel by reel) of it for us
    – We take those quicktimes to edit a trailer, TV spot or other advertisement for it
    – now the client wants us to supply a EDL to get back to his source material which he used to edit the feature
    – as we didn’t have the project, and so editing with “new” source material the EDL of FCP would not work to online to the avid source

So The only thing I can see to keep any referenz to the source is to burn them into the picture and then create the EDL manually. If anyone has a better idea, I would love to hear it 🙂

    Thanks and best

  • Hi,

Sorry, i already use Jes Extensifier. It’s a good tool to edit flags like that. It’s cool to do batches with folders and just edit and save own presets.

    Thanks for your reply.

  • Hi Jeremy,

you’re right. I did not read your post exactly. You wrote that i should reimport the via File > Export > QuickTime Movie exported file into compressor. I allways tried to send the file with a sequence to compressor which did’nt work as describe by apple in this article:
    https://documentation.apple.com/en/compressor/usermanual/index.html#chapter=20%26section=2%26tasks=true

as a small “NOTE”: If you export a sequence from Final Cut Pro to Compressor (File > Export > Using Compressor) and apply a setting with “Pass-through” selected, the audio portion of the setting will change to a PCM setting with the sequence’s setting and channel count, but with only a single track created on output. If you require audio passthrough for a Final Cut Pro sequence, export a QuickTime movie (File > Export > QuickTime Movie) and then import the movie into Compressor.

thanks for your help. Know everything is running and i’m on my way trough the 80 HDCams…

    Thanks and best,
    Klaas

  • Hi Jeremy,

    thanks for your help.
“audio at passthrough” in compressor isn’t working, don’t know why. Even if i activate it(set the drop down menu in the secon tab to “passthrough”), and in the information tab tells me that he’ll do a passthrough(8-channels, 32-bit, 48kHz), it encodes me a 7.1 track.
But it’s right, if i uncheck the “clean aperture” box it’s no longer included in my file but my audio still sucks, i need 8 Tracks, 1-6 set to mono and 7+8 as a stereo track(thats what i already manage inside FCP)or at least 8-mono tracks.
There’s no option to get my 8 audio tracks separately. Why?

I’m capturing the HDCam SR via Blackmagic’s Media Express, which works fine(It does not include this “clean aperture” thing) the only problem is the audio tracks. It creates one audio track inside the QT file including the whole 8-tracks. If it would be possible to change that and get 8 separate mono tracks out of it, i would be happy at all.

I don’t know which system they use and why it’s a big deal with the aperture thing. They are using the itunes store specs(for input) which provide the same.(BTW, It’s a bit paradox that there are these itunes specs which can’t be done with my apple hard- and software 😀 )

Thanks for your support, i think i go insane 🙁
If i fix one problem, there is still a different thing that can’t be done 🙁 …

    Thanks and best,
    Klaas

  • Hi David, Jeremy and Walter,

thanks for your help. One of our customer wants me to encode this in 1920×1080 cause they use these files for their VoD delivery. The got some apps that get confused with these data of 1888×1062.

Jeremy, your trick with QT7 is not working for me. If i set the aperture to “production”, mediinfo also tells me 1888×1062 🙁 …

this really sucks ’cause i’ve about 80 HDCam SR to digitize and deliver via ProRes Quicktime, I thought abaout just digitize them and export via batch out of FCP. But if i have to use the quicktime conversion option my audio tracks won’t be in the right order…

thanks all of you for spending your time on my problem.

October 11, 2010 at 3:59 pm in reply to: SAN Options (what do I need, what don’t I need?)

    Hi Bob,

thanks for your answer to my last post.
I read in Walter Biscardi’s Blog about the new SmallTree ST-Raid which needs no server as i understood. So this would be great for our needs and i don’t need to block a mac pro as a server.
Does anyone know how much this system cost? And when do they start shipping?
What about the integrated ethernet of the Mac Pro, do they support the full bandwith for this system or do i have to use a PCI-x card(from Small Tree for example?)

Thanks so much for your help.

October 9, 2010 at 10:18 pm in reply to: SAN Options (what do I need, what don’t I need?)

Hi Bob, hi Jeremy, hi Matt,

I’m also looking for a good network storage solution for our needs. Maybe you could just give me a short preliminary estimate of my needs as well?
We got 3 Mac Pros here, two of them(editing and rendering) are already connected via LAN to a QNAP NAS(used for archive purposes), the 3rd machine works in our cinema(approx. 40meters from the editing suites) for presentation of final cut projects and trailers(HD/SD ProRes/H264, 5.1 audio).
There will be a third Mac Pro for editing and rendering in the future and I would like to have acess to all of our projects(FCP 7) on every Mac Pro.
Does it make sense to set up a san enviroment? What kind of Software do i need? I looked at Sonnets Fusion systems with Fibre channel(sonnet for-4). Would that be the right thing?
Most of the time we’re using SD(ProRes LT) for our editing, but there will be more and more HD Editing and Rendering(export) in the future.
There is also a MacBook Pro which needs access to the projects.

Would be great to get a short answer from you “Pro”-guys and sorry matt for disturbing your thread.

    Best from munich,
    Klaas

Does Final Cut Server also work with my simple QNAP NAS?

whats about different projects on the same NAS HDD and accessing them via different workstations and exporting the timeline onto an internal harddrive?

    best regards,
    Klaas
