    Thanks John.

In the midst of our posts I actually installed the XDCAM Log & Transfer plugin for FCP (we had the Import plugin, but not L&T). I can now see & transfer the XDCAM clips into FCP using L&T, but it will not let me convert to ProRes (or other formats) on Transfer (it does allow you to convert P2 & AVC files to ProRes).

I did lose quality when I recompressed using Media Mgr., so I would like to find another option. Can’t purchase the other transfer software that was mentioned at this point.

    Thanks again for your help.

I used Media Manager in FCP to recompress the XDCAM files. Is there a way to use Log & Transfer on the XDCAM files? I tried, but FCP wouldn’t recognize the MP4 files.

    Thanks!

JP, you can import XDCAM footage from either SxS cards or a hard drive, but you will need the XDCAM Log and Transfer plugin for FCP.

For some reason it is hard to find. You can do a search for “XDCAM Plugin” or try this site: https://www.sony.ca/xdcamex/software.htm. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and download the version 2.5.1 file. I read that they’ve gone as high as 2.7, but this was the only version I could find. I works fine with my Macbook Pro. Someone else on this forum may know where to get a more recent version.

Once you install the plugin, “XDCAM” becomes one of your options under the import function.

    Good Luck!
