The PBS station I work for just got our first FCP system, so I’m just learning it. Please excuse my ignorance.

In trying to Edit To Tape, I get a compression error saying my clip compression doesn’t match my output compression. The message suggests I nest my sequence into another sequence of the correct compression.

It will do a “Print to Tape” with no problem, however.

We’ve got a FCP Studio 2 system with a Kona 3 box. For this project I’m editing SD off of a Sony BetaSX deck. I’ve been working in 525 29.97 10-bit on everything from capture to sequence to output. Kona output is also set at 525i.

Any clues as to why Edit to Tape thinks my compression rates are non-compatible?

I’m sure this is a basic issue, but I haven’t been able to figure it out on my own.

    Thanks for any advice.

this is a common issue all of us have encountered when getting used to fcp.

click on your timeline, launch edit to tape.

drag your sequence from the bin area into the video
window of the edit to tape and choose insert if you have
a time code blacked tape all the way through, or assemble
if you just blacked to the insert point.

be sure and set your tone for -20 as it comes set for -12

I really wish apple would add “insert to tape” and “Assemble to tape”
as right click options when right clicking a sequence.
