  • Yeah, I have the same issue. I scale down to about 55% to fit within a 16×9 HD frame. I then output a sequenced in-between file, which I re-import and work on (mostly roto). Sometimes I nest sequences but have found realtime playback issues.

Okay, just solved my own problem! Seems the RGB input and the YUV input somehow changed…I selected YUV and the color is fine. I’m pretty sure this is coming out of AE in RGB…

    1080i looks great. AGAIN.

Going to pat myself on the back and get on with painful roto job. Well done Kevin. Great work!

  • I’m getting up to 15 secs of RAM real time preview in AE (on a G5). One trick I’ve learnt is NOT to render at a smaller frame resolution – for some reason it takes more processing power to scale down.

What is ‘stopmoanim’? I’m doing an animated piece using DSC images as well. Would love to connect with others who are ‘doing the impossible’ (wait till you see what madness I have been up to!)

Wierd, I’m having the same problem…Yesterday it was fine, today it’s not. I started up AE7 and the 23″ Cinema display was switching itself on and off. So I turned off the power to the HDLink and when it finally came on it had color shifted. I updated the drivers (2.2 I believe) but still the same problem.

I’m running a Kona 2 card. I checked the settings and ran a test pattern – my PVM gets the signal no problem, but the HDlink has strange colors. When I set the output to 525i (29.97) the HDLink displays the correct colors, but it’s a little fuzzy. In AE if I change the video prefs to 525i the same thing happens.

The same thing happens in Final Cut Pro 5.

Nothing changed in my system between yesterday and today. This is odd. Any help would be appreciated as I need to 23″ to check my HD masks…

  • Part of the problem you’re having is not just the dimensional size (width by height) but the DPi (dots per inch) Those files are most likely 300DPi whilst video work is 72 DPi. I would simply open them up in Photoshop and adjust the Image Size (you’ll see a box for resolution). Photoshop will automatically resize and you’ll see a HUGE change in the image size (MBs).

I personally don’t know if this is doable in AE itself. I hope this helps.

Oddly enough, when I do a RAM preview in any resolution less than full, I cannot watch realtime previews…that really surprised me.

I’m amazed that you can’t get full previews on that machine. You might be slightly down on RAM (500mb will probably help) but you’d think it would work…

One other, very important and possible solution is the Graphics card – AE7 is supposed to utilize the Graphics card to processing and previewing (I’d guess that would include RAM previews.) What card are you using? I have the X800.

Good luck. I wish I could be more helpful.

    Kevin.

How much memory do you have? Also how long are the sequences? I’m running uncompressed 16 bit files at 1080i and getting pull playback at 23.976. My shots are only 5 – 6 seconds in length though. I am using the maximum 3GB of memory on a Mac G5 2.7ghz dual. As far as I understand RAm is what affects what speed playback occurs at…Could be wrong though.

“it’s as if the masks aren’t paying attention to the pulldown.”

That’s exactly what it looks like. Sadly this did not work…I was so hoping it would. Since it works perfectly when I output via Export, I am assuming there is a render setting that is the problem.

Pete suggested the footage might not be interpreted correctly, problem is I created the footage, frame by frame and exported as 23.976…

    Any other thoughts?

The DVC Pro file exported perfectly from Export. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is? I have about 30 more shots to do and would love to avoid this issue in future…

    Thanks.
