Probably a color space issue. Make sure your project color space settings and footage color space settings are the same. Specifics can be found in the manual or by searching the Cow for “Color Space”.

I too am having this problem with importing alcohol into my system (even after several cache purges). I have read the manual, but to no avail. Any help?

    Thanks in advance!

aaaaaahhhhhhhh. thanks. that did the trick.

Even though I’ve been at this for 10 years, I learn something everyday. Kind of embarrassed I didn’t know that one;)

Or check the “pixel aspect ration correction” in the view options panel. The view options panel can be found by clicking the small arrow in the circle icon in the upper right hand corner of your comp window. Without knowing what format you’re working in, your solution is most likely what Michael suggests or what I have just suggested.

Are you using file/export or the render queue? You should almost always use the render queue except in rare situations. If you are using the render queue, what are your output settings?

December 21, 2008 at 7:11 am in reply to: Duplicate with unique layers

You have to duplicate both the main comp and all of the subcomps. Then replace the orig subcomps with your new duplicated subcomps in your new master comp. A quick shortcut for that is to select the orig subcomp layer in the timeline, then in the project window select the new subcomp and drag and drop that onto the orig subcomp that you have selected while holding down the option button (I think it’s the option button, but I’m not at my work computer. Might be the control button.)

Or just duplicate the entire project and import it into the working project. That might be easier.

I’m not an expert in expressions so I can’t really help you there. Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in on the plugin trapcode Soundkeys. It would work perfect for this.

December 4, 2008 at 10:16 pm in reply to: how to create a huge flock of birds

Well, first you take a mommy bird, and then a daddy bird, and in about 10 year you should have a flock.

    😉 Sorry couldn’t resist.

One thing I always forget to do is use the brainstorm function. Once you get particular to a point that you like, maybe throw a couple of the settings into brainstorm and preview a bunch of variations. It has worked for me in the past, and it hasn’t worked.

However, if you’re going for a extreme realism, I don’t think AE will cut it alone. Probably need to look into 3D apps.

Good luck and if you figure it out, post your final.

Your workflow seems very similar to ours. You might want to look into Nucleo Pro 2. We use it and it saves a lot of time. I must say that is a little quirky, but once you understand how it works and its limitations, it is of great benefit.

November 24, 2008 at 5:49 pm in reply to: Mono vs Stereo problems.

    Thanks Chris,

That did the trick. My only question now is – why is that the default? I can’t think of a benefit to having mono channels mixed by default. I’m just going to bring everything in stereo and not worry about it anymore.

    Thanks again,
    Kevin
