I’m not sure what you meant by this. I thought that the TS-873U and the TVS-873e were similar, at least in terms of the internal architecture. (same processing power) The TS-873U-RP is, what I thought, a rack mount version that also has dual power supplies and does cost more than the TVS-873e. So I didn’t think I went the budget route. Then again, I wouldn’t be here asking questions if I knew the difference. Not that it matters, as I’ve already aquired the TS-873, just wondering what I missed in the differences.

I’ve never had any issues with Netgear, they seem to make good products. Though I’m actually using Ubiquiti for the entire network. Their Gateway, managed switch and CloudKey dedicated to run their network management app. I’ve had no issues with their products. Their technical support has been great. So when we needed a 10GB switch, I simply went with Ubiquiti.

Moving from direct attached RAID to a network based RAID, I had not thought about running two networks, so that’s probably a good idea. I guess I’ll have to wonder over to the network forum to figure out how to do that. Thanks.

Here’s the part I’m trying to understand.

At first, it sounds like you’re suggesting a Static Volume, RAID 6. But when I read farther on, it sounds like you’re suggesting a Thick Volume.

I thought the QNAP hierarchy was:
Physical Drives
RAID Group(s)
Storage Pool (which I thought was required, before volumes and folders)
Volumes
Shared Folders

I also thought that the options of Static, Thick or Thin applied to Volumes. Not to Storage Pools. (then agian, if I understood things correctly, I wouldn’t be here)

Static Volume:
Fastest Read/Write
Fixed Size? Of the RAID Group?
Can only be expanded by adding Drives to the Group. (RAID enclosure exapansion?)

Thick Volume:
Read/Write not as fast
But flexible in terms of size and expansion

So, I thought:
Create a Static Volume to hold all the Master Media. (for performance)
Create Thick Volumes for basically everyhting else. (for flexibility)

But it doesn’t sound like that’s what you’re suggestiong. Or (more likely) I’m not understanding your correctly.

For what it’s worth. I was (am) a long time Aperture user. (I’ll try and refrain from going on a rant about Apple dropping products, then again, this is the proper forum for such a rant)

I’m not a big fan of Lightroom. I also don’t care for Adobe’s subscription model.

I finally decided (after spending a fair amount of time learning it) to move to Capture One. It’s a little more like Aperture than LR. At least in terms of not having to switch between develop and library modes. It’s very customizable. Plus, it’s RAW converter is better than both Aperture and LR. At least for my Fuji cameras. Plus, C1 can read your Aperture Libraries. While not perfect, it’s better than not.

It’s not cheap, but it does come with the ability to load the SW on three of your computers. (I think, haven’t tried that yet)

Capture One has lots of videos (long detailed ones) on You Tube, so trainmen is basically free.

Well that’s interesting. Seeing as Apple has been shipping 4K (and now 5K) iMacs, I would think FCPX would not have an issue with screen scaling.

So your saying that having one or two displays has a negligible impact on FCPX? Moving to a single display wouldn’t help performance in a noticeable way?

What about moving from dual 27″ (2560×1440) displays to a single 4K display? From a pixel count, one 4K display is less than two of the 27″ displays.

Would it matter if I the 4K display was connected via Display Port (TB) or HDMI?

Does the new Metal core graphics technology work with FCPX? Was that support in the last FCPX release? Unless I missed it, I didn’t see Apple reference FCPX in the Metal section of El Capitan.

I believe I came across that discussion. It was about whether or not an Atmos product was worth while. (something like that)

That’s basically the root of my question. A recorder may be cable of recording up to a 444 color sampling, or 10 bit color. The question I have, is whether or not (in my case, a D600) outputs in a format that would benefit from the recorders capability.

It’s not something Nikon seems to spec, so I was just wondering if anyone here knew the answer.

Not being an encoding expert, doesn’t Prepare always transcode? Or is the default XAVC the same coding as XDCAM?

Meaning, Prepare always transcodes?

Is this transcoding why FCPX does not recognize any output from Prepare? FCPX only looks for the intact camera BPAV structure?

When Prepare releases a BPAV importing function, will you be able to use the Prepare naming functions? Or will it leave the original BPAV structure and naming intact?

Will prepare ever support an option to unwrap into a *.mov file as did the previous XDCAM importers?

Mac Pro Late 2013 (the tube)
3 GHz 8 Core
OS X 10.10 Yosemite, also worked fine on Mavericks
Dual NEC 27″ PA272W (2560 x 1440)
Dual AMD FirePro D700

Each are connected to separate TB2 ports.
Pegasus2 on it’s own TB2 port.

This configuration has worked fine for both Yosemite and Mavericks. In fact Mission Control/Spaces (not sure the correct name) works really well in a dual monitor setup. You can swipe between Spaces on each monitor separately.

Also, FCP 10.3.1 recognizes and works fine with both monitors.

I’m about to fall off the fence I’ve been sitting on for some time and finally acquire an LTO based archive system.

I’m glad to hear you like MLogic’s drive, since that’s what I plan on purchasing now that I’ve upgraded to an expansion-card-free Mac Pro Tube.

I was going to go with BRU software, based on what little knowledge I have. I came across PreRoll Post and was just wondering there might be a reason why I’d pick PreRoll over BRU.

It’s been a while since I went to frame rate school. Seems no matter how much I learn about these simple facts, I always seem to forget. The FCPX setting is yet another great example.
