Cheap construction, poor quality innards. Slow on and off the heads. For a day in day out edit deck, this is NOT the deck to get. Get a DSR-20 minimum. Don’t cheap out on decks, powered speakers or video monitors. Unless you’re a hobbyist, get a deck you can live with.

Here’s the problem: likely you are not set up properly.
Hook up your FCP system the way it should be. Most folks wrongly work w/o a video monitor. Furthermore, they plug in the speakers to the Mac–this is wrong, they should be set up out of the DV deck or DV Camcorder.

In my opinion, your media files are too long. Simply put, if you are deriving multiple cuts from long media files, you’ll run into trouble. Each clip should be relatively short and captured separately with its own discrete media file. I know that’s not what you want to hear, but it’s what Murch and Cullen found when editing Cold Mountain. I also ascribe to this theory, but then again, I’ve always worked that way coming from an Avid background when drives were much smaller and we had to be more conservative in how media was captured, stored and managed. IOW, our clips were only as big as they needed to be. FCP has always functioned better with short, discrete media files in my experience, so I agree with Murch and Cullen’s findings. I am sure that many people will not agree with me, but I’ve had few problems with FCP over the years with this conservative approach.Kevin Monahan

Are your clips derived from tape roll captures, or did you batch capture clip by clip? How long are the original media files? Murch and Cullen found that clips derived from tape rolls bogs down a lengthy timeline.

CCC is not ready for Tiger. And why spend the dough? Just use Disk Utility. Disk Warrior is not good to go with Tiger either, so Disk Utility is the most reliable way to do this function.From the CCC website:
If you’ve upgraded to Tiger you may have noticed that CCC does not seem to work. Apple updated the authentication sceme of AppleScript Studio (yea!) and there’s a little bit of work to be done to get that part of CCC working again. I am planning an update to CCC but I do not currently have an ETA as I have some additional features and a large QA matrix. In the meantime, keep in mind that you can use the Disk Utility application to clone one disk to another as well as to create a disk image of your hard drive.
