I agree. Flip Factory or Vantage are both going to have issues. I am doing the same process of going into and out of QT7. I agree it is a pain..

hahahaha good ole FCP 8… UGH!

I agree with you there. But as I said in the post. Programs like Flip Factory and Vantage use the QT info in there transcoding engines. So when these files are transcoded, the end result isnt what it should be due to the programs thinking the files have a weird frame rate, or a weird aspect.

I was wondering when I was using the demo version, why I had to go back to such an old version of QT player, but now I am thinking it has to do with something with this.

It is easy to say to ignore the frame rate in QT player. Which I always do. The bigger problem lists in programs that use the QT metadata for there transcoding software ie Flip Factory or Vantage.

I have been searching and searching on why QT player picks up the random frame rates. 29.98, 29.95, when capturing in FCP with Kona or Blackmagic and havent found anything. I am assuming it is a weird metadata label somewhere in the file that QT player isnt picking up. Similar to where QT player plays a 720×486 NTSC file back with square pixels when they are in fact .9.

Does anyone know the actual reason QT player is picking up this incorrect metadata?

So this one ended up being a weird one. The connectors are the correct ones, KINGS 2065-11-9. We re-spliced and connected new connectors and the snow was still there. So we just ended up replacing the whole wire and now everything seems fine. So it looks like a glitch in the actual wire somewhere in the run.

Can you watch the Original H.264 files? Do they have the same issue?

I have tested out this compressor setting for the 3:2.. Its OK, not really comparable to the hardware pulldown though. It is better then FCP just doubling frames.

I also tested out the AE settings and that was quite surprising. Video looked broadcast-able, The only problem with the AE method is that for most systems I need to finish in MPG 2.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Then again with this HDSR shortage, and clients not accepting working on used or evaluated stock, its going be an interesting time for deliverables.

I haven’t seen anything software wise that can do what HDSR 5500-5800 Decks can do for pulldown. Anything with fast movement is going to be choppy/not smooth. Ive tested the Latest versions of Episode and Rhozet, both do not give the professional look of a deck 3:2. I havent tested this out in AE, which I am going to just to see what it looks like. I will follow the posts above, curious to see what its going to look like, and if it could be broadcasted.
