May 14, 2015 at 5:49 pm in reply to: Dragging of layer does not work anymore in After EffectI just had this same issue – couldn’t reorder layers, drag new layers on, or drag an object to replace a current layer. Tried everything mentioned here and nothing work… Then I had another oddity with my workspace (the project window disappeared while dragging it). I reset my workspace and everything went back to normal.

July 19, 2012 at 11:48 am in reply to: DNxHD quicktimes from Avid AAF get immediately corrupted in AE CS6It’s not just DNxHD. I had the same issue last night with ProRes footage. Somehow the corrupted footage has also messed up the original Final Cut project as well. I was able to transcode all the clips except one to Animation, which AE corrupted as well upon re-opening the project.

This exact reason is why I am buying a Ross Carbonite over a BM ATEM. The Grass Valley 2200 in our installation just died and I want to replace it with something that is supported by top notch customer service. I don’t want it covered today and not tomorrow and I want someone to be available when my equipment needs some kind of support, when I’m actually using it, which is always nights and weekends.

I lied… Well, I didn’t realize when I posted… This doesn’t really work. I ended up using the code below from Dan Ebberts’s website.
https://motionscript.com/design-guide/auto-focus.html
target = thisComp.layer("Focus Pull");
v1 = target.toWorld(target.anchorPoint) - toWorld([0,0,0]);
v2 = toWorldVec([0,0,1]);

This worked very well. I modified it some slightly so that I could use a null object’s position…
Also, I’m in CS 5.
p1 = thisComp.layer("Focus Pull").transform.position;
p2 = position;length(p1, p2);

March 15, 2010 at 9:56 pm in reply to: Shared Storage Newb – Help with Final Cut optionsClearly using one of the systems offered above would be a more ideal solution – but I was wondering if anyone has any experience at all using a DroboElite iSCSI san unit?
Being only 8 bay and the max drive size for this application being 2Tb, it looks like it would only give us 16Tb, so we would need 2 units to start – so it’s already looking like something I don’t really want to get into. However, in the interest of completeness I need to be able to say I looked at and asked for advice in regards to lower cost solutions.
If there are those out there that have used it:
Would this unit be able to handle multiple clients running multiple streams of ProRes or ProRes LT 1080p footage to multiple clients or would it be more of an offline storage solution?

Excellent information – that definitely helps me talk intelligently to vendors/integrators. Thanks!

February 26, 2010 at 5:43 am in reply to: Shared Storage Newb – Help with Final Cut optionsBob,
Thanks for the warnings – though I believe you are mixing part of what I was asking about and part of what I was saying I saw recently. The 100Tb system was at a facility I recently toured and included several (I believe around 10) edit stations. This is way more than we need (and indeed the cost is way more than we could afford).
I am looking for something much smaller (though maybe not simpler). We do have a dedicated IT staff at our facility to help us administer it, but we definitely will be paying someone to engineer whatever system we end up going with.
Again, I was trying to lay out what I believe our needs are and was hoping to get some knowledge and contacts to move towards an implemented solution. I appreciate the warnings, but would more appreciate solutions. The contacts with Small Tree and Maxx Digital are helping me explore options – what are options you feel I should look at?
